Duke ABSN Spring 2015

Published

Anyone else applying to Duke's ABSN program for Spring 2015? As we're approaching the application deadline, I thought it would be great to get a conversation started. If anyone is currently in the program, I would love to hear your thoughts about the program as well.

It is officially July ladies and gentlemen! Getting excited and anxious. We could possibly know as early as July 9. :nailbiting:

I'll be pleasantly surprised if I get in. lol

Im very curious as to how many applications they got this cohort.

Anixon,

I'm curious as well as to how many applicants there are. It was a pretty large range she gave. The odds of getting in are a lot better if only 200 applied and they extend offers to 100.

Yeah, it is a big range. I bet its really hard to sift through so many applications.

Yet, they seem so on top of it. It's impressive. Says a lot about the school. Makes me want to get in even more...lol. Ugh, I need to find a hobby until next week to make time go by. I'm not use to working and only having one class to take. Too much time on my hands.

Hahaha.. Ya. I. Home with 3 kids and ready to do something as well. I think I got a PRN position with the hospital here... Be nice to have some people I know when I graduate. Assuming I get in. I'm trying to stay busy!

Oops I should have said *not working and only one class. I'm pretty much home with the kids as well with the exception of class twice a week. Hope you get the job! Will you continue to work if you are accepted into the program?

Probably since it's PRN. I also applied to Duke Hospital for a job which I am being considered for... This is assuming I don't get in. Unlike most candidates I am not wholly set on nursing as a great career a lot because of what I've read on here and also having worked in the nurse station for two years. I find that I see a lot of disrespect to nurses from management, patients, and staff along with a not-so-great pay for the amount of stress. These are just my random thoughts though. I guess we will see what happens. At the tender age of 37 haha I worry about the amount of stress this will put on me!

Anixon, Duke's ABSN program isn't cheap! I would figure out first off if nursing is truly what you want to pursue so you don't put yourself in a financial hole and put more stress onto yourself. You seem like you have enough going for you with three kids!

Whether the # of applicants was on the low side this time around (I'm assuming this is why they extended the deadline this year) or on the high side, I am weary at how they diligently pored over all of them in less than a month's time.

Homelife,

Oh trust me when I say I'm working on that. This is a hard decision. I also know a lot of people go into nursing without the slightest reality of what it's about. They've never worked in a hospital nor patient care for any length of time. Those are the ones I worry about. But no worries, I'll figure out what's right for me and family. Nursing is a great field and there is a lot of diversity in jobs...that's where my heart lies.

As far as Duke, you may be right.

Anyone else enjoying this lovely hurricane weather? lol Anixon, is it bad in the Raleigh/Durham area? I'm on the coast in southeastern North Carolina. A lot of places have shut down already, so there is nothing to do to make time go by. It's making the wait for decisions feel like eternity (maybe a slight exaggeration there). Counting down the days...6-8 to go.
