Duke ABSN Spring 2015

U.S.A. North Carolina

Anyone else applying to Duke's ABSN program for Spring 2015? As we're approaching the application deadline, I thought it would be great to get a conversation started. If anyone is currently in the program, I would love to hear your thoughts about the program as well.

Does anyone know how many applicants there are this year?

I have no clue lol I'm sure someone can email and ask.

I won't bother them with it. Don't want to keep them from checking apps. Just curious to figure out my odds. I might be obsessing...just a little. :)

Wait wait wait all day long... wait wait wait while I sing my song! hahaha... Killin me here!!

I know how you feel. I am very anxious to know when they will decide and what my decision is. The days are going so slowly. I submitted somewhat last minute, so I really have no right to complain about the wait. I wish there was a rubric to go by, but from everything I have read they take a more holistic approach to selecting applicants. I'm not sure if my essays will be good enough. I had so many technical difficulties completing the application (darn Internet Explorer). I didn't realize it until it was time to submit. I've had to call a few times including today. I'm scared they are going to think I'm completely incompetent. lol I have to say though, no matter how much of a fool I feel when I call, they are always extremely nice and so helpful!

Yeah...I go back and read my essays and think...I totally didn't answer anything they asked haha. I figure if I look incompetent then so be it. I can't change what they think. I know me though. I know I can do this as I've been in the industry for a long time. However, the waiting stinks!

Hey anixon, quick question on the GPA calculation. So it's all of your total # hours/quality points from all colleges correct? So if you have 100+ hours from one college and 20 from another it would be the total of the hours and quality points from both used to create a single GPA and as long as that is over a 3.4 the GRE is not needed. Hope that makes sense.

This is how I did it. After all the calculations anything over 3.4 is good to go.

Hope that helps

You need to submit your transcripts and personally get your GPA assessed because a class that is valid at one University may not be valid at Duke and may not be counted in your GPA. There's not a cut and dry formula that they use. They literally plug the numbers one by one to tally it up. Trust me, you don't want your GPA to be guess work and thinking you have it figured out when you don't.

I'm getting antsy for answers at the Webinar tomorrow!

Hi everyone,

I wasn't able to make today's webinar, can someone fill me in on the details?

Thanks!

It was kind of a waste of time and didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. A lot of people were asking specific questions about their own shortcomings, a lot of questions about financial aid that didn't bear asking since answers are all over the ABSN website. Kind of frustrating. It will be uploaded online if anyone wants to watch/listen to it.

Some interesting tidbits from it:

- 98% NCLEX pass rate

- Clinical groups consist of 6-7 students. Ratio of faculty to students is usual 1:7

- 68-73 cohorts chosen; about 200-450 applicants each time

The most important tidbits:

- We will hear back between July 9-11; only on our application portal (https://applicants.siss.duke.edu) will we see our admissions decision. We will not receive hard copies in the mail (weird). Nora will be sending out e-mails around these dates to let people know our account portals HAVE been updated with an admissions decision awaiting our attention

- Duke Days are Friday, July 25 and Monday, July 28. Based on your admissions decision, you'll receive an extra e-mail from Nora days following, inviting you to attend and asking you to RSVP. You can bring up to 2 guests with you. You do not have to attend both days (but I think you can if you want).

So again... we sit. We wait. hahaha
