Duke ABSN Spring 2015

Published

Anyone else applying to Duke's ABSN program for Spring 2015? As we're approaching the application deadline, I thought it would be great to get a conversation started. If anyone is currently in the program, I would love to hear your thoughts about the program as well.

Naw we had a little rain today but suppose to be clear and sunny tomorrow. This the outer banks are getting the worst. Not much inland though!

All righty it's right around the corner!

Have any of you looked into private loans? I am looking at Wells Fargo. Also just FYI, when you are filling out those applications know that your "year" will be spring and summer so, January through August... Round abouts. And each semester is 18,332/semester. This isn't including books and fees. Just tuition. Good luck to you all and post when/if you get the Duke invite!

Not yet. I don't want to get ahead of myself/jinx myself. You also have to remember rent cost. Probably another 5-8k, even though Duke estimates 8k (which IMO is way too high and can be significantly reduced). It's still like 25-28k a semester, times three. It's three times as much as UNC's entire program.

Im im going to take it one step at a time. First things first: can this week fly by faster?

LOL well, I dont believe in jinxing .... only because I did this same thing (got outside loan approval before I got accepted) in Texas, and got in, before I had to move here unexpectedly.

As far as rent, that was what I was inferring to with fees... just everything else that isnt tuition based.

However, I agree, it is a ton of money and I was reading online how Moses Cone/Wake Forest/Forsyth all mostly pay around 21.65/hr for new grads.

I am just hoping I find out tomorrow. I just had a job interview at the hospital here and got a PRN position. Im kinda excited. The Nurse Manager is fantastic!

About $22/hr would equate to about $45k starting. Not bad! I'd always heard starting salary was roughly that and up to about 55k.

Im crossing my fingers for all of us this week, and scheduled myself for overnight shifts just so I'll keep busy and not go crazy with the wait!

Wish I had something to keep me busy!

Anyone just get an email about Duke Days? Looks like it came through about 30 minutes ago.

I did not. Perhaps that is a sign.

Haven't looked into yet. Like Homelife, I feel like I will jinx it. I had to step away the past several days to prevent myself from becoming too hopeful in case I am not accepted.

Dont worry!! Its just a reminder, keep-the-dates, kinda email... nothing special and very generic!

Thank you for your interest in the Duke University School of Nursing. This letter is being sent to remind you to save the date for Duke Days! Should you be offered admission to the Spring 2015 cohort, Duke Days will be held on Friday, July 25 or Monday, July 28.

Duke Days is an all-day event planned just for you to meet with your faculty, and to learn more about the Duke ABSN program. However, this event is also an opportunity for you to take an in-depth look at what our institution has to offer. It is highly recommended that admitted students attend one of the two event days. Here are some of the presentation topics that will be delivered that day:

  • Detailed program presentation conducted by our ABSN Program Director
  • Information regarding the next steps in the enrollment process
  • Information and resources on tuition, scholarships, and financial aid

For more information about Duke Days and the event's program, please contact the Office of Admissions and Student Services at 877-415-3853 or by email at[email protected].

Should you have any questions about your application or status, please contact us and we will promptly respond to your inquiry.

Sincerely,

Accelerated BSN Admissions Committee
