Drexel ACE Fall 2010

Published

Has anyone heard back from Drexel for the fall 2010 class? My husband attended the info session for me a few weeks ago (he works in Philly and I had to work late), and he loved the school. On their website it says you have to have 7 pre-reqs completed prior to applying, but then it says they will not review transcripts until after you are accepted. Does anyone have any info on this?

Is anyone else potentially looking to find a roommate? I don't know my exact plan yet but I'm thinking that splitting a 2 or 3 bedroom place will be much more affordable. I hope to move out to the area in late August or September to look for somewhere to live. It's kind of tricky planning stuff out when I'm coming from the Northwest.

For anyone who is familiar with the Philadelphia area, what are some of the more convenient yet nice areas to live?

I wish I could make it to the orientation, but I am in the midst of finals:\

Please please pleaseee leave feedback from the orientation if you go:)

I would also prefer to have a roommate, I've never lived alone! I am not quite sure how I'll find a place.

Is there going to be another accepted students workshop?!

Tina Heughes told me yesterday that this is the only accepted students workshop there would be. That's disappointing!

Hey Guys

So I was reading about some people coming from different areas looking for housing and thought i'd throw some insight out there. I'm from the area and come from a family of real estate agents. One Franklin Town is a good option it's right down the street, if i recall right the general atmosphere is older, more family oriented but i could be wrong, they have the indoor pool which is nice. I'd def check it out when in town. Some fun places off the beaten path which are coming up in recent years would be Northern Liberties and the art museum area both are nice and if you had roommates the cost would def be doable and you could rent a house as opposed to an apartment. Both of those are a further distance from campus but within 5 miles. If you're looking for highrise living with the security guard then sticking to One Franklin Town or maybe Park Town Place, which is also a little further from campus but def not too far out. I've never been in Park Town Place but I know when I was at undegrad a lot of undergrad and grad students lived there.

Side note: you should def check out Sabrina's and Honey's when you move to the area, great little breakfast/brunch places. Sabrina's is virtually next door to One Franklin Town.

Best of Luck

Thanks for the insight! One Franklin town definitely looks amazing, but it would be double the cost of splitting a two bedroom in a nice, but less fancy apartment or home elsewhere. I mainly want to find a place that will be quiet, nice, and friendly. Not surrounded by a bunch of party-going undergrads. Having never lived on the east coast, I definitely want roommates, just to make the transition a little friendlier.

Feel free to post any more housing insight if any of you have any. Being able to walk to campus would he a huge plus, as well as parking:)

That is totally why I won't live on campus. So over that! I've been looking at a couple of private homes for rent, but they tend 4+beds and i really want my own bathroom! hehe

Does anyone know which PDA we will need?!

I was recently on one of Drexel's online info sessions. They said they provide all students with an iPod Touch. That's very cool. And we asked if they are ours to keep after we are done and they said yes ... double cool :D ... I mean sure, you do pay for it somehow.

I've applied for Spring 2011 and finishing prereqs now. Let's see if things work out!

Hi everyone, I was accepted for the Fall program but have a question. My boyfriend also applied but was not accepted. He has a cum. GPA right now of 2.7 but his GPA for the last 60 credits is more like a 3.3 and he's worked for 5 years in a hospital as a transporter. He wants to apply for spring 2011 but do you think it would be better for him to wait after the priority deadline when our spring semesters grades are in (end of May probably) which will boost his cum. GPA to like a 2.85 and his overall to more like a 3.5. Or, should he just apply by the deadline in case they close off applying by the end of May?

Thanks for your help!

I seem to remember from my info session that they take into account EITHER your overall GPA for your bachelor's OR the GPA of your last 60 credits completed, which includes any coursework completed after the bachelor's (such as missing prereqs). Is there any chance he could ask someone at the school why in particular he was denied so as to cure that issue to create a better application? I don't think Drexel takes into account experience in the field, I don't recall seeing anywhere in the application for that information.

Hey 06california, I am trying to find housing too. Do you know what the rates are for that one franklin town place? I went up to philly recently and actually it looks like the area by drexel's main campus and penn is pretty nice, plus there's a free shuttle from there to center city.

According to their (One Franklin Town) site, a one bedroom starts at $1165 and goes up to $1647. The price for a two bedroom isn't listed as there aren't any available right now. I've seen some places on craigslist (2 bedroom or more) that would come out to be about $500 per person, and going up from there.
