Interview Issues
Hi everyone, I just graduated from nursing school in September and have been applying to jobs since August. I have had one interview so far which is what my question is about. The nurse manager seemed to like me, and after my shadow day told me that she would love to hire me but had to wait to give me a definite answer due to there being other applicants. A week later, she called me and left a message telling me she wanted to give me an update on what was going on and to call her back or e-mail her. I called her back soon after but she was not there so I sent an e-mail. After a couple of days, I heard nothing back so gave her another call and left a voicemail. Still nothing. It is now almost a week later since she initially called me and I am going crazy!! I would have no hope left at all if it wasn't for her giving me that phone call, which to me seemed like she hadn't forgotten me yet and I may have a chance still. I just don't understand, it doesn't make sense. Where the hospital is located there have been many electrical outages (I am on the east coast) since the snow storm over the weekend, perhaps it has something to do with that? I don't know what to think anymore. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Drexel ACE Fall 2010
You are very welcome! Well, primarily price. I found that places that were just outside of philly were much more affordable for myself and my boyfriend. Also, we're not too much "city people" and wanted a place that wasn't right in the middle of everything. We got very lucky though because the apartment we found actually has a Septa train stop a minute's walk away, and from there its about a 30-40 minute train ride! Good luck with your apartment search :)

Drexel ACE Fall 2010
Tiny dancer, I am also from out of area, but not too far (Long Island, NY). I was also thinking about doing the craigslist thing, but found another couple of websites to be more helpful. I knew that I was looking for a type of apartment development that was around 30 minutes outside of Philly. So I went to one website first, apartmentguide.com, and put in Philadelphia, PA for my location and looked at places that were at least 20 miles outside of Philly. Then once I found ones that met what I was looking for, I went to apartmentratings.com and typed in the complex name. This website was very helpful because it was able to give previous tenants opinions and I used the overall percentage rating they give to guide where I was actually going to look at when I visited. Once I had a list of about 5-8 places to visit, I called each one up and made appointments to visit. I did all of that about 2 months ago and luckily found a place I loved. I hope these websites are able to help you and any fellow classmates with their apartment search!

Drexel ACE Fall 2010
Hi everyone, I got accepted into Drexel for the fall but am having some issues regarding the prerequisites. I have completed physiology already, but it did not have a lab component so I have to retake that class by August 1st. I also did a microbiology with chemistry course (with lab), which they are stating they won't accept because its a combination course. However, only the first couple weeks dealt with chemistry and the other couple months were all microbio. I don't understand how if the course I took covers all the microbio material a strictly microbio with lab course would, how they expect me to retake that as well just because the title says chemistry in it. I've been in contact with Peggy Breslin but am just afraid I'm going to have to spend more money on taking classes I've already taken! I also have to take nutrition so thats three classes I have to do before August 1st, and I'm stillp a full-time student graduating in late May. I'm also spending half my summer in Long Island and the other half in Philadelphia which makes it even harder to do any classes in person, so online is probably my only option but most of those don't end until August 12th! Has anyone had the same issues and was there a way you were able to get around them? Any advice or input would be great, thank you!

Drexel ACE Fall 2010
Hi everyone, I was accepted for the Fall program but have a question. My boyfriend also applied but was not accepted. He has a cum. GPA right now of 2.7 but his GPA for the last 60 credits is more like a 3.3 and he's worked for 5 years in a hospital as a transporter. He wants to apply for spring 2011 but do you think it would be better for him to wait after the priority deadline when our spring semesters grades are in (end of May probably) which will boost his cum. GPA to like a 2.85 and his overall to more like a 3.5. Or, should he just apply by the deadline in case they close off applying by the end of May? Thanks for your help!

And I hope they do another accepted students workshop because I didn't get any e-mail about that and its a little too soon for me to make plans to go. I'd really like to attend and meet some fellow students!!

Drexel ACE Fall 2010
Congrats! I called today and they told me a decision was made but they couldn't divulge it over the phone and to wait for the mail (which could take 2 weeks!). I'm curious as to who you called in order to have them tell you their decision? Thanks!

MGH accelerated BSN 2010
Congrats to everyone as well! I was accepted and they are looking for the deposit and notification by January 25. My boyfriend was also placed on the wait list though and now we are so confused about what to do because we still won't hear back from a couple other schools until February! Does anyone know what the chances of getting accepted are if you are on the list? Or any advice for someone in our situation would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

2010 Accelerated BSN
Some of your responses are making me even more nervous! Haha Im holding on to some hope because a few of the programs i'm applying to state a 3.0 PREFERRED gpa, some say 2.5 required, and a couple don't state a gpa at all. Hopefully I get in somewhere! I'm not being picky at all, that's why i'm applying to schools all over the east coast. Good luck everyone!

2010 Accelerated BSN
Hi everyone! I just wanted to start this thread for people who will be applying for entry to accelerated BSN programs for the summer/fall of 2010. I am a male from the east coast and am applying to quite a few schools just to make sure I will get in somewhere. My main worry is due to my poor GPA. I messed up in the beginning of my college career and as a result currently have a 2.5. The past year I have really picked up my grades and have got no less than a B in any of my courses. I am just HIGHLY worried that schools aren't going to really care about that. I have worked as a transporter for over 4 years in 2 different hospitals so I have a lot of first hand experience and will also have good reccomendations. I also tried to explain a little why I fell so off track during my first couple of years at school. I am hoping this fall semester will raise my GPA to at least a 2.75 (im hoping to get close to a 4.0) and the schools that I apply to in january and on will see a slightly better GPA, but i'm still applying to quite a few before then. Within the next couple of months I will be applying to Quinnipiac, U of Rochester, MGH Institute, Columbia, and Virginia Commonwealth. Do you think I have a chance at all? I'm so worried, and am hoping for your input and also to hear how everyones doing with applying? Thanks guys!

Wondering About Accelerated BSN
Hi everyone! I'm currently going into my 5th year at Stony Brook in NY, I have a double major in health sciences and psychology and a minor in business. This coming fall I am going to be applying for accelerated BSN programs but am finding this to be more difficult than I thought! A lot of schools ask for different prerequisites, and its really throwing me for a loop especially because in my final year my classes are set and adding in extra ones is quite difficult to do when your schedule is already determined for you. I have taken anatomy with lab, chemistry with lab, microbio with lab, developmental psych, stats, and most other common classes. I was going to do physiology this upcoming semester, but my school (of course) doesn't offer a lab i can take! So now i'm thinking about doing an online phys. with lab. Long story short, i am running out of places that are logical for me to apply to. Right now im just looking at stony brook (which is a long shot) and the university of rochester. I'm also looking into a couple out of state programs. Any suggestions of schools that may not require labs or those that dont ask for as many prereqs? Any info on how likely it is to get into rochester, which is really what i'm hoping for? Thanks for your input!
