Done! Time to graduate.

I'm officially finished with my program and waiting to take the NCLEX. Woohoo! Nursing school was not easy. I hardly know what to do with all the time I have off now. Can't decide whether to loaf around and sleep for a few days, or catch up on all the social activities I've been missing since I started school.

Specializes in Critical Care, ED, Cath lab, CTPAC,Trauma.

Yay!!! Congrats!

I agree- sleep, then party!!

Thanks guys. I'm waiting to get my ATT from the BON. I decided to sleep for a couple of days, and it was wondrous! Then I did all the laundry that's been piling up the last couple of months.

Congrats! Enjoy a little time low key to recognize all your hard work!

Congrats! I want to become a nurse, and I was just wondering if you could share some of your nursing school experiences. Every time I tell people I want to go into nursing, they talk about how much work it is, and that school will have to be my whole life. They talk about it dauntingly. I feel like I am ready and willing to accept all that comes with nursing school - the good and the bad. What is your overall nursing school experience?

Yes, no problem. It's all about the effort. I wasn't able to have a social life during school because it is all consuming, but if you're willing to make the sacrifice of working very hard for a few years it's worth it. It's only a few years, just think about it that way.

Are you a person who likes taking care of others and helping them? That will go a long way toward being motivated. If you're interested in science, that will too. I think the only way people do well in nursing programs is if they are truly interested in the material...the people I've seen fail out are usually the ones who are bored by the material and really don't want to be there.

Is your family supportive? I've seen a lot of students go down because their families weren't behind them.

Oh, also you have to be able to shrug it off when people are mean to you and not take it personally. Sometimes the clinical instructors, professors, and patients can say hurtful things and you just have to realize they are having a bad day and it isn't about you. I've had a couple of patients swing at my face, and I just had to remember that this person is very, very ill and doesn't realize what they are doing. Clinical instructors are sometimes unnecessarily brutal when they are giving criticism, and again you just have to realize that it's not about you. I had a CI shout at me in front of the class for something I didn't actually do, and I just smiled politely and said, "okay, thanks for your feedback" even though inside I wanted to scream at her. Later that day she came back and apologized.

Congratulations! I also finished nursing school yesterday. Eagerly looking forward to NCLEX. I'd be taking a break during the holidays and resume studying immediately after
