The way my office is set up, the cot is behind me. When I can, I will ask kiddo waiting for pick up if they want to lay down - occasionally, I get a kid that will, instead of laying down, just sit there on the cot. It creeps me out a little because I feel like they are staring at me. Anyone else have this issue/get creeped out by kids?
My cot is in a small room to the right of my desk. The very end of the cot pokes out at the door. But I have the feet at the door end. Some kids will flip the pillow to the door side so they can watch me and the clinic comings and goings. It makes me crazy that they'll lay there and spy on me like that. I also have 2 chairs behind me and kids sitting there will watch me document and even make comments. Aargh!
I also keep a clean, fitted sheet on my cot because it's really a canvas camping cot. So if anyone lays on the cot I have to change sheets (and take those dirty sheets home at night to wash).
So I keep a sign on the end of the cot that says "PLEASE STAY OFF COT" otherwise kids will just randomly sit on the cot even if they're not sick. Makes me bonkers. But now, kids sit on the sign. I'm seriously gonna just lose my chiz one day. Totally.lose.it.
I hate that too, but my bed is in front of me, kinda on the side of the wall. So because of this, I see them sitting there and they were all "I have a headache" and I tell them to lay down, but they just sit there, sometimes stare at me or start a conversation, which is fine, but I try not to let it run into overtime, but then sometimes it's like 5 seconds of just sitting there in silence and then, "I'm feeling better!" and they leave. Kids are weird.
To Nana - do you really take home sheets to do laundry, PERSONALY?Do other SNs do so?
Are you compensated??
The previous nurse used to keep sheets on the cots, but we have a washing machine in my office bathroom and the school pays for detergent.
Personally I don't like having anything extra on the cots. Discomfort and boredom are my best friends.
I never used to keep anything on the cots but they are PINK and I couldn't stand looking at them. So I put white sheets on them with a nice fleece blanket, all folded up and neat...I spend quite a bit of time folding those stinkin' blankets now. And brushing dirty shoe prints off my sheets. I do have a washer but I buy the detergent. I also have cloth kitchen towels that I use for a few things, and I wash those.Personally I don't like having anything extra on the cots. Discomfort and boredom are my best friends.
If I had to take these things home for washing...yikes. I would have given them up months ago.

YES!! Lay down kid...rest your eyes! I can spin around in my chair & my outstretched leg almost touches my first cot.
