Does your nursing school/hospital provide scrubs/uniforms?

I can count at least 5 different kind of fluids that splashed my uniform (white) while during clinicals (i'm only at the beginning, i know there's more). Yet the next day I'm expected to show up with a clean uniform.

I'm sorry, but I can't afford 4 pairs of uniforms, and if I did the washing the day before it wouldn't be dry before 7am rounds.

I know many people that wear the same uniform day after day if there is no physical sign of a stain. I refuse to do this, i hate to think that what bacteria I encounter and would pass on--- though oddly enough, I have to wash it at home!

I mean, even the cleaning staff have hospital scrubs!

The only way to get hospital scrubs is if you are on payroll and I find this absolutely ludicris--- and as they are also students and not employees, I highly doubt that the med students I see walking around in scrubs, buy them.

I'm just frustrated. This hospital is an integral part of the university and it's where we'll be for 4 years (2 and a half left, but who's counting?).

Sorry, needed to vent as I just pulled my uniform out of the machine...

No, our school does not provide scrubs for us to wear during clinicals. We were given the color and type of scrub to buy with our school logo on the tops and where to order them from. But the school does not pay for them.

I start nursing school (university) in June; we buy our own scrubs. I worked as a CNA at a hospital and we bought our own scrubs. I had one pair that I tossed in the wash as soon as I got home; I worked 12 hour shifts so didn't have a lot of time between shifts. Scrubs dry VERY quickly so I, too don't understand the problem???

my school 'provides' two sets for us.. but we're charged for them. the crappy thing about that is that we HAVE to buy them through the school because they sew a little patch on that says the schools name and 'student nurse' so even if i want more i can't go look for them at a discount.

Ehh my school did this crap too. We have to buy ours through an "approved" vendor to have the school name embroidered on our pants, shirt & lab coat (which we have to wear to clinicals & I hate it!). Total price: $130 :uhoh3:

Nope, we have to buy our own. They recommend 2 sets. they provide the patches and 1 name tag. We have to get them sewn on. I have 2 sets right now, will probably buy one more as a back up set.

My school makes us buy our own.

They are the most hideous scrubs on this green earth.

The fabric is hot and the color is ugly.

As soon as I put it on, I immediately look pale, pasty and sick.

The cut is flattering on no one.

We look like we came from The Poor Slobs School of Hobo Nursing.

Sorry, I had to get that out there for therapeutic purposes.

You could have a top for every holiday, sports team, cartoon character... whatever you would want and whatever would be appropriate.

We purchase ours through the school. One white set, one blue set, one lab coat and 3 school patches.....$277.00.

We had 2 sets, but why is that you can't wash/dry a set right after clinicals and just fluff in the am while you shower and toss them on?

The area hospitals stock scrubs for the OR that any employee or student could wear if the need be arose even outside of surgery. The employees mostly buy whatever, but I've been aware of some departments that wore certain colors.

The schools assign a color of scrubs. An LPN program near here wears khaki, another wears red, the local ADN program wears blue, and the BSN program (mine) wears black.

I've only got one set of scrubs. I never get any funk on them because I'm careful about it. We also only have nine clinical days per semester so it's easy enough to wash them each week so no need for two.

I personally dislike scrubs in a big way. I think people in white look like idiots, the florals and animal prints can look tacky, and the rest are baggy and feel like pajamas.

I'm a bit confused here.. If you wouldn't mind an increase in your tuition for the school to provide an extra set of scrubs why would not just go out and buy an extra pair of scrubs, either way its the same thing. If you didn't want to do this then I don't understand why you can't just wash your scrubs when you get home. How could tehy not be dry overnight? My husband works 12-14 hour shifts and washes his uniform in between working.
