Does your employer know? I just started a new job today so I have not discussed this with my current employer. My last employer though, I had been with for almost 3 years and they knew, I told them after I started school.I work in Human Resources/Personnel so there is not much of a relationship. I will share the information as it needs to be i.e. naturally. Like if I'm studying on my lunch break and someone asks me, I would share that. But I won't go hey, by the way I'm a nursing student.

When the next semester starts in July I will probably mention that I am in school in the evenings/weekends but it really depends. I don't think I will be working much overtime, my boss was the first one out the door today. LOL!
Just curious if your employers knew/know?
My employers know. My boss even wrote a letter of recommendation to get help me get into the program. They have arranged my schedule so that I may attend school (I work 2-11pm). If working full time becomes too much for me I will be allowed to work part time! My boss and coworkers are very supportive, they allow me to do my homework while I am on the clock (I am a telephone operator at a casino). Sometimes I love my job!
Im lucky that I work at a doctors office. They really work with my schedule. If I need the weekend off to study, its granted. If I need to work that extra day to earn more money, its granted. As a matter of fact, everyone knows that im a nursing student and the doctors, receptionist and managers are pushing for me to work as a student nurse (per diem) and if I need more hours, just show up to the clinic.
My boss knows and even wrote my letter of recommendation for the BSN program. I've been here for 2 years and after finishing my first Bachelors degree my boss thought I would quit and get a better job. I told her I love working here and she offered me a full-time position. Now I realize that it's not the job I love but that my boss is great. So if I get into the program, I'll cut back on my hours. My boss doesn't mind, just as long as I don't leave.
Nope. I am a programmer... but I am only taking my pre-reqs at night right now. I hope to be able to quit next May if I get into school and just concentrate on nursing school. I have a feeling my employers wouldn't like it too much. A girl I work with knows, tho... as she goes to school at night also to become a teacher. :chuckle I think everyone wants out of the IT field..... *sigh* :uhoh21:
When I interviewed for my current position (admin asst for county government), I told them I was in school for nursing... but that it would be quite a while before I was done since I was doing it at night, part-time, etc. I actually told them it was one of my criteria for choosing that position, as they reimburse 100% for classes! The last three people who were in this position left for the reasons I wanted the job: it requires little to no brainpower, and there's lots of "downtime" (they got bored, I study!). Plus, none of them lasted over a year, and the prospect of having someone for 2 years was probably just smashing for them.
Anyway, I just didn't want to be secretive about it or lead anyone on, and they seemed to be happy to have me - I got the job, and the 8-months worth of backed-up filing (think Vesuvius, Everest) disappeared, which they loved. It's a wonderful, wonderful place to work.
My employer has been very supportive. I have been up front and honest about it. My boss has been great. She allows me to rearrange my schedule and work crazy hours. If I didn't have this flexibility, I would have gone off to work in a hospital as a nurse tech by now. I have 2 years left in my program, and will probably be here at least another year.
