Does anyone really like their job?

Published

Granted, we all have some bad days, but does someone out there really like their job?

I have to say I do. I like my manager, my co-workers (most of them anyway), the facility and job that I do.

I work with a handful of negative people. For the life of me, I can't figure out why. They think they can find it better somewhere else, however, I don't think that will be the case. I have worked in the area hospitals and know this facility rocks over the other ones. I just with they could be as happy as I'am.

Specializes in maternal child, public/community health.

I am blessed with a job I love in a home-based community health pregnant/parenting teen program.

Why do I love my job? A few of the reasons:

  • I have a lot of autonomy and flexible hours (I schedule my own visits. I do work some evenings to see moms who are in school during the day but only work 4 days a week - 40hours total). No weekends unless I choose to work a few hours, no holidays.
  • I work with a great team that combines nurses and social workers. It is a very positive work environment and I know my boss and team members will support me. I love the multi-disciplinary approach. Our SW are great!
  • I love providing holistic care and being able to focus on one patient (and babe!) at a time.
  • I know I make a difference in their lives. It is rewarding to see a teen mom have a healthy pregnancy and a full-term baby in part because of what I teach her. In the next couple weeks, several will graduate from high school. For many of them, it is because we were able to help them overcome barriers to returning to school.
  • I love teaching - in high schools, with the moms and their families
  • Since I don't do acute care, I can stay home on snow days - I just do paperwork in my jammies!

Yep I do. Realized that although it is not always perfect as rarely things are. A little person smiling at you for no good reason, is reason enough to love my job!!

when i get into a discussion with patients about my life in general and the road i took to get here - i always tell them when they ask that i really do LOVE working with patients, and it's true. i could do without some of my co-workers (okay, most) but i really do enjoy the patient care part, and that's the most important IMO.

Today I wanted to jump out of a window at work by 0900, but for the most part I do love my job. Thank God that not every day is like today was, and thank God for my excellent and supportive co-workers. My unit is a great place to work.

Bleh. I don't blame you. I wouldn't like ICU either. What about OR, Emerg, palliative care? I just took a palliative care course that I really enjoyed.
