This question may be just ridiculous but... Does ANYONE out there actually enjoy nursing shool?
There are so many threads about how hard and awful it is, about how little sleep you get, about how much work it is. I was just wondering if any students are enjoying the process or is there no hope at all? LOL

You know, having graduated a month ago, I've had some time to reflect on this very question. For me the truth is that I would have really enjoyed nursing school if I had understood the culture of nursing and adapted promptly. Instead, I chose to be stubborn and outspoken, which are 2 traits that are not well received in the nursing culture. I wasn't stressed or overworked from the academic or clinical load, however I did possess other degrees obtained prior to taking up nursing.

i liked nursing school alot. i felt very comfortable there and now that i am a nurse i will say that they are totally two different worlds. school was hard, but its nice to be challenged and i believe anyone can get through nursing school if they are determined and motivated. the professors i had that were known to be "hard" were the best ones in my opinon because they prepared us face the real world of nursing. get all the experience you can while in school, you will be so thankful later.

I did not enjoy it at all. I worked full time days and then school at night, with small kids.
I would do it again if I was young but my older body would not take the abuse now LOL.

Do I enjoy nursing school? Yes and no. Some days, I truly loved it and others I didn't care for it. The days I didn't like were usually those that were double session. You know the ones... you sit in one spot for 6 hours and try not to think about how many other things you could be doing. :rotfl:
As a 35 y/o mother of 2 kids (ages 4 & 9), I do find it hard to juggle school and family.

Well, I'm not actually in nursing school yet, so I don't have the clinicals, instructors, etc. but I generally LOVE going to school, which I never, ever thought I would say 10 years ago! I think I will truly enjoy it. Of course there are going to be times when I hate it, I'm sure and times when I am stressed beyond belief, but I think in general, I'll have a good time!

YES! I actually did enjoy nursing school. Care plans and exams were very stressful, but I'd do it again. I learned a lot about myself during that time and I think its made me a better person.

I went to nursing school when I was in my 30's with two young children and a military husband. Yes I did enjoy parts of it. However, working full-time and going to school full-time left little time for anything else.

I'll be finishing my ADN this year and will be a little sad when it's over. I haven't worked while in school and have no children so I have really taken advantage of getting to know other students and had a great time laughing throughout evertything(or else we would have all been crying). Cramming for exams, care plans at 2 am and bathing your first pt all seem livable when you have students around you to laugh about it with. The friends I have met have been great and we have repositioned ourselves every course so we are all together. I will miss that aspect of it a lot and am hoping I find just one person like that on whatever floor I work where you can just look at them, roll your eyes and they KNOW!

I went to a BSN program right out of high school and there were many things I enjoyed about nursing school. I can't imagine how I'd even make it through school if I were trying to work full time and/or care for a home, husband and children at the same time, though. The people who are able to do this must be so much more organized, motivated and energetic than me. I know I wouldn't enjoy it under those circumstances.
Mercy...see that's why I think I am going to enjoy it so much more. Class is actually going to be a break from the daily grind of home life that I have been doing for over five years! I really can't wait!!! I know I'll be complaining and moaning now and then, but really, I just want to be free of the trappings of home. Not that I don't love my family to pieces...I just need to find ME again!

Nursing school has just been ... incredible. It is amazing to me how much I now have crammed into my head, and how much more I still want to learn.
If you haven't been involved in some capacity in health care before, the actual reality of providing care for patients will permanently change you as a person. Maybe not every single day, but many days will find you reaching way deep down inside yourself for your core beliefs. It can be unbelievably stressful.
And yes, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I have not missed a single day of class or clinical, and I wouldn't unless I were infectious or had a very, very serious family crisis.
Good luck to all! :)
