I'm still doing pre-reqs this fall. Yesterday was my first day. I'm taking psych 200 which is human development, soc 100, speech 175 which is intercultural communications, Eng 101, and biol 101 which is general human biology. I'm already having problems in english, it really sucks and intercultural communications seems extremely boring, biology is ok (I like science), psych seems a little on the boring side, but maybe it will be ok, and soc seems kind of boring too. Did anyone else have this problem?? Did you like pre-reqs?? I just can't wait to get into nursing (I start in the spring). I've been doing homework all day long and I just can't concentrate because nothing seems interesting. Does it get better??? Please reply!

I understand your pain. My first and second semesters of pre-reqs wasn't that bad, because I knew that it would be awhile before I was accepted into the nursing program. I was just so excited to be back in school. The Third semester was horrible because my "advisor" gave me false hope that I would get accepted into the program. I didn't. So it was another semester of pre-reqs. I now will finally start the ADN program this fall. However, even though pre-reqs suck, we take them for a reason. They are to prepare us for the nursing classes. Try to learn something from each of them. Good luck and keep your eye on the final result.

Hi there (o:
It may not get better if you're thinking in terms of homework. Lots of the reading is dry.. and truthfully a bit boring.... BUT
as you go along... and you see where all this stuff is applicable to theory and practice and etc etc...... it gets better... then you're like.. "cool.... now i know why i had to know that stuff!!!!"
once you get into your nursing program,it'll be more interesting!:)

I have several pre-req's to take before I can bridge to RN, the only trouble is those classes are already taken - 5 days BEFORE registration begins! GRRRRR... then... today... I find out I have to take a placement test before I can register for anything that's english or math/science related:( I just graduated from the hardest PN program around - you'd think that would tell them I'm smart enough to AT LEAST take Eng Comp I - I knew I should've clepped......

Call me a geek but I have enjoyed every class I have taken so far!
I think each and every pre-req class is benificial to anyone wanting to be a nurse. As an RN you are going to meet many different people that come from different religions, different ages, different countries, different *everything* and all these classes you are taking now really will help when dealing with people since nursing is a people job. So maybe if you look at it that way it will help a bit :)

I personally don't have a problem with the prereqs. I think they are good. I like to learn as knowledge is power in this world. With each class that you take, you should try to get something out of it. Not only will it help you at some point in your career, but it may help in everyday life. You don't want to be another person running around with a college degree, who doesn't know where Alaska is...:chuckle
Just try to do your best and think of it as getting your money worth!
Cheers!

Enjoy the prereq's! get 'em all out of the way before you get into the core nursing classes. I just finished up Microbiology. I really didn't care too much for that class probably because I took it in a 5 week cram course!! Some how I made it through with a "B". Alot of people flunk out of the summer 5 week courses, WHEW! I'm glad that is over. Now only 2 more semesters & I'm done, unless I decide to go on for my BSN! Take care & it does get better once you start into the "fun stuff"

I really enjoyed most of my prereqs. It was the nursing classes I didn't like. Mostly because of mean-spirited nursing intructors.

Martibear, was this directed toward me, or did you intend to say Future_RN3385? Just curious...

Pay attention in those pre-reqs.......you will see a lot of it again in the nursing classes. I am going into 2nd semester med-surg & have been looking through the book----seems like a combination of what I learned in microbiology & AP I & II.

I'm a little surprised at the amount of prerequisites some ppl have to take. My ADN admission requirements are a Compass test with passing scores for English/math (81+ and 44+ respectively) or ACT (19+), a CNA course, an anatomy course, and an intro computer course. Many of the classes (or something similar) mentioned in the original post are incorporated into the ADN curriculum and we're not required to have passed them before admission.

I don't like prereqs. either. It took me a while to finish my geology degree in the 80s, and now I want to get through a two year nursing program as fast as I can. I don't want to do the broke student routine longer than I have to.
The community college where I was going to take anatomy said that even though I already have a science degree that I have to take intro biology. I went back to UNLV where I got my geology degree and convinced the instructor of anatomy to waive the intro bio class and he did. This saves me a semester of biology, even though I know the class will probably be more difficult at the university than at the community college. My other classes are done; phil, math, english. That's where my geology degree finally came in handy.
