  1. Hello, I have found that a good place to ask military and basic training type questions is Military.com. There's a specific forum for basic military training http://forums.military.com/1/OpenTopic?a=cfrm&s=78919038&f=65919558. I hope you find all the information that you need. Cheers, Tara
  2. I'm in the same sort of relationship and I have not had any problems whatsoever. I haven't noticed anyone looking or otherwise...Should be fine for you here. By the way, I'm in Austin. Good luck with your move!
  3. thanks debbie, i'll be dropping her a line shortly!

  5. Hi! I am wondering if there's anyone here who will be starting the BSN program at UTMB in Fall 2004. If so, perhaps we can correspond before we get there. Thanks, Tara
  6. I lived in San Antonio a couple years ago. I can't vouch for kirby, but there are many nice locations if you look into the North Central area and even the North East. If you want to know about any specific areas in those locations, feel free to PM me. Tara
  7. If you want to get a head start at finding out what type of civilian jobs are open overseas, or Germany in your case, the Army Civilian Personnel webpage is a good place to start. There are also details there on how to apply for those jobs and eligibility requirements. Here's a link for you: http://cpol.army.mil/ Just click the search for jobs link on top and fill in the appropriate info! I hope that helps a bit! Cheers, Tara
  8. Thanks for the information Calfax. That's the sort of comparison I was hoping for.
  9. Thanks for your concern. I am completely serious about the idea and that's exactly why I contacted a recruiter already...so that I'm completely informed by the time I'm nearing graduation. It does not hurt anyone to get information ahead of time and to be prepared. By the way, this thread was intended to compare/contrast the military and civilian nursing, so if anyone has anything to contribute directly along those lines, that is also appreciated. Thanks!
  10. I found the NCLEX pass rates for all of the programs in Texas on the Board of Nurse Examiners webpage. Perhaps it's the same in other sites. Example Site from Texas: ftp://www.bne.state.tx.us/nclex10.pdf Update: Just found the one for Oklahoma also: http://www.youroklahoma.com/nursing/nclexpass1.pdf
  11. I've spoken with an AF recruiter and they do not offer a program like then Navy's NCP. They only offer a couple different sign on bonus' or the option to have student loans paid up to a certain amount.
  12. Omegaqueen112, I will definately try to contact some current AF nurses between now and the time I decide. I did know two AF nurses, but that was about 3-4 years ago and we've all since gone our own way. I'll stay in touch and let you know how it goes. Good luck with your little one! Cheers!
  13. Thanks for your post Omegaqueen112. I have looked into the Navy as well as the Air force. I've talked to an Air Force recruiter already about nursing and their entrance requirements. I liked the Navy's NCP, but I'm more partial to the AF in general since I served 4 years enlisted already and enjoyed it for the most part. I was really wanting to hear from some who have worked in both the Air Force and private sector as a nurse so that I can compare and contrast the two. I realize that there are many, many civilian jobs and wonder why one would choose the AF aside from some of the obvious benefits. As for Heatherbless' comment, that's completely unwarranted since it seems that's she's following me around and PMing me to make useless comments--not knowing anything about me. Thanks!
  14. I'm also at ACC right now finishing prereqs so that I can transfer to a BSN program in the fall. I considered ACC's nursing program at one time, but once I saw all of the criteria needed just to apply, I was like "forget that". I figured with the time I would spend finishing the prereqs for ACC, I could apply to the BSN and most likely finish in the same amount of time or less as I would at ACC. At any rate, like osborncs said, there are schools in San Antonio that offer ADN and BSN degrees: UTHSCSA http://nursing.uthscsa.edu/ San Antonio College http://www.accd.edu/sac/nursing/ You may also check out Central Texas College in Killeen. I know a few people who are in the same ACC bind who are now getting into this program. They said it's much easier to get into and more relaxed than ACC. Here's the link: http://www.ctcd.cc.tx.us/dplans/dpnad.htm I hope some of that helps you, good luck in your nursing school pursuit! Tara
  15. Hello, I would like to know the opinions of those who have been employed in nursing both in the Air Force and as a civilian. Which did you prefer and why? Please feel free to emphasize things such as the attitudes of those with whom you have worked. Thanks! Tara
