I attend a small school. Most of my professors for my pre-reqs were doctors or nurse practitioners.
My school has said, many times, a doctor will NOT teach a nursing core class.
I received my schedule and, my current professor (who is a doctor) will be teaching my nursing classes next semester!
Is this even possible? She says she's teaching the class because the lady who was going to be teaching it, quit.
Has anyone ever heard of this ?

What school is this- and why is this physician teaching nursing courses? Can he/she not make it as a physician? Is he/she a foreign graduate who couldn't get a residency? So many questions......

Are these professors medical doctors (MDs) or do they have they doctorate degrees in other fields? (Like in nursing, for example. Hi mmj!)
i have so many questions too ! the school is a mess im trying to transfer but it doesn't look possible this semester. She is a physician. She actually comes to class still wearing her lab coat from the hospital.
They are actually medical doctors. They work at a hospital near by.

Well, Doctors do not dictate nursing practice, but perhaps it might be enlightening just the same? On the job, sometimes our docs educate us and we appreciate it. You could check with Admin to see what's up.

I don't really understand. What class is this physician going to be teaching? Is is something that she wouldn't be knowledgeable about?

Take advantage of the opportunity! I continue to learn a lot from the doctors I work with. There is a curriculum the instructor will have to follow, certain learning goals to be met. Why do you think they wouldn't be able to teach you? Yes, nurses have a different focus, but anatomy doesn't change, how to put in an IV or a foley doesn't change, disease processes don't change.
ANother thought, was this doc a nurse first, before going to medical school?

Are you sure it's not a professor with a doctorate? Like a Doctorate in nursing? Instead of an MD.

At one school, we had a podiatrist teaching in an anatomy course. I imagine he didn't have enough business in his practice setting.
I bet that was interesting.....

I had a physician who was stepping back from his practice that taught one of my A+P courses. He was getting older and basically seemed to be teaching because he genuinely enjoyed it. He was functionally retired but taught to stay busy and contribute to the field, I suppose. I'm not really sure why this is concerning?
