  1. please stay away from those for profit schools. i attend one right now, and i am looking for a way out ! the teachers know absolutely nothing ! the classes are overcrowded. They charge is far too much ! i only got 4 book this semester, yet the cost of the books was 2,000 ! These schools will rip you off. There is a fee for everything.
  2. Pharmacology. Start learning you medications now ! i feel like learning medications is quite challenging.
  3. my school required business casual. I just work a plain dress with a cardigan :) "you never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression."
  4. sometimes they reject students for mistakes on the application, or for even missing an item that goes along with the application.(ex: your transcripts arrived late) I honestly can't see why you we not accepted! your grades and scores are amazing ! dont give up :)
  5. i attended community college and my adviser said that same thing! that is way too long. Look up what school you want to attend, and look at their pre reqs. Only take those classes. My adviser wanted me to take so many classes, but they weren't even needed for the nursing program.
  6. sounds about right to me. My program is 48,000 but everything is included. from the stethoscope, to our shoes.
  7. They are actually medical doctors. They work at a hospital near by.
  8. i have so many questions too ! the school is a mess im trying to transfer but it doesn't look possible this semester. She is a physician. She actually comes to class still wearing her lab coat from the hospital.
  9. I attend a small school. Most of my professors for my pre-reqs were doctors or nurse practitioners. My school has said, many times, a doctor will NOT teach a nursing core class. I received my schedule and, my current professor (who is a doctor) will be teaching my nursing classes next semester! Is this even possible? She says she's teaching the class because the lady who was going to be teaching it, quit. Has anyone ever heard of this ?
  10. The 2 year program most likely has summer included. I go to a 2 year school and i must go summers. Also my semester are cut into 2 semester, lasting 8 weeks each.
  11. i learned about drugs calculations :)
  12. i believe traditional child care will work for you. i attend a school in south Florida and the hours are reasonable. We have class 9-1 twice a week. We have 2 options for our clinicals, weekdays or weekends. See if the school you will attend has different clinicals hours. My school tries to accommodate everyone. If you happened to do weekend clinicals, maybe you could find someone to watch your daughter, or enroll her in a weekend program.
  13. i understand. I am currently in an associates degree program. I applied to a bachelors program that was 2 years of clinical and nursing related classes, then 2 years of classes that have nothing to do with nursing, such as history, statistics, and sociology. Sometimes a bachelors can feel like a waste of time, but if you want to get your masters or even doctorates degree, you are one step closer !
  14. I was in your exact situation last year. I had a 2.0 gpa and I thought no school would accept me. The problem is that I was applying to the well know universities. After not getting into those big we'll know universities , I started applying to smaller/less known schools. if you are looking for an associates degree , try a technical college. I don't know about California , but here in Florida, many technical colleges have an LPN AND AND RN program. Of you are going to a bachelors degree , try to take more credits ( nutrition, medical terminology, introduction to health Science). A lot of school look at overall gpa instead of pre requisite gpa. If you take a lot more classes , and do well in them, you can raise your gpa i hope this helps ! Don't give up ! You'll be an amazing nurse one day (:
  15. No , don't change your major. If you do not get accepted into the schools you applied for, apply to other ones. Try to apply to smaller schools that are "not as known" (but make sure they are accredited). Large schools and universities usually have wait lists and high GPA requirements. good luck, and don't give up :) it took me 2 years to get into a nursing school because i was applying to the well known universities, that had waiting lists. Then i found my current school, which many people know about.
