Back in the day when we spilled milk, juice or water on our clothes we were told it will dry and we'd be ok?
OR
When we fell on the playground we were told to shake it off, we would be ok (unless there was blood squirting to the sky).
When we had a headache, a belly ache or sore throat we were told to tough it out until after school?
Parents were only called IF we were bleeding profusely, had a bone literally sticking out, or had a temperature so high you could actually fry an egg on our foreheads. ?
On a more serious note... does anyone feel we may be teaching this generation how NOT to cope with life?
Back in my day we didn't cry over spilled milk.... today you get a new set of clothes, and if you're real lucky you may even get some socks and shoes to go with your new duds! ?

I was just talking to our counselor about the clothes thing. When I took over this job, there was a small dresser in my office with 3 drawers. Top on had socks/undies, middle had shirts and bottum had pants. And it was plenty! Now - there are two LARGE metal cabinets FULL of clothes for kids. Not to mention, a large hanging area of coats, and a built in cupboard full of snowpants, boots, hats and gloves. ( This is all outside my office because it will no longer fit in it) It is INSANE! The counselor spent $200 of her own money to buy nice gloves, and in a few weeks, we were scrounging to find gloves for kids. There are no natural consequences for forgetting your winter gear, you can come borrow a new pair of gloves or a hat every day if you want. And very few come back. No responsibility being taught. I hate it.
And yes, every playground bump needs an ice pack and every hangnail needs a bandaid.

And to top is off, I have seen so many kids who will complain about whatever top or pants they may get from the clothes closet. When I hear this I remind them this isn't Wal-Mart, be grateful for what you get.

LOL I tell them that too! Sometimes they spend so much time looking through the hats and gloves to find the "perfect" ones, that they miss most of their recess.

ha ha! were you just reading my mind? i was just thinking as i went to get pants for a child and noted that m pants supply is getting low "welp, when they're gone, they're gone!" Maybe when a kid has to sit around in uncomfortable pants while a parent comes from wherever or can't come and the parent has to figure out what to do because their kid soiled themselves and there is no change then there will be some concern.

Ah, yes, that was, as the saying goes, back in the good 'ol days. Fast forward to today's society where instant gratification, ZERO coping skills, and no responsibility are the norms and everybody gets a trophy!!

I had a kid sent to me this morning because he had a small rip in the lining of his pants pocket. I explained that it was fine as nobody could even see it.
He acted appalled when I told him to tell mom at home. I am sure I will get an angry call on Monday about it. Right now, pants are like gold - no way are you getting a pair unless absolutely necessary.

I have no boys pants now. They have all disappeared. I started the year with plenty of pants, even bought 12 new pair with money from our HSA, plus I cleaned out my son's clothes and brought them in...now I have none. Not a single pair until size 14, which is not very helpful in elementary. Oddly enough, I have plenty of girls' pants. Boy's underwear have been gone for at least a month. If you need to change, you'll be going commando! I did give a kid boxers once and he came out wearing only the boxers and said "I don't need these pants, the shorts are little small, but they'll work" lolI turned away 2 kids that were "muddy" today, sorry, until you are covered from head to toe, you're not changing. They each had a splash of mud on the back of their shirts, like 10 drops...not happening.
