no.

...However, it is a 'gateway' drug and dangerous in that right. ...

Hmm, "Gateway Drug". Didnt we learn in basic science classes that "precedence" does not equal "cause". In other words: just because one event precedes another, doesnt mean the first caused the second.

Did you know that carrots cause death? yes it's true, just look at the stats: Of all Americans who died last year 99.999% had eaten carrots at some point in their lives, 90% had eaten carrots in the year proceeding death, and over 80% had eaten carrots in the PREIOUS MONTH!! Keep carrots away from me, please!

Because most users of hard drugs had begun with MJ does not mean that MJ was the cause (or gateway) to the harder drugs, only that MJ is readily available, and many many people have a history of SOME MJ use (just look at your own post)

It should be decriminalized completely.

. . .it would be unreasonable, arbitrary and capricious for the DEA to continue to stand between those sufferers and the benefits of this substance."

Unreasonable, arbitrary and capricious... sums up the DEA for me!

I agree w/ the use of marinol, but I am not so sure I agree w/ actual smoking of marijuana

I totally agree with its use when to be used medically. there have been so many studies where it's medical use has been proved to be huge, but has then been ignored purelly because it's an illegal drug. i think it's ridiculous.

I firmly believe that marijuana should be legalized. The real danger lies in people using it and attempting to hide it from the legal system. Our prisons are full of "drug dealers" whose only mistake is to try to help people gain access to an herb that helps in all kinds of illnesse. One disease that it is very helpful with that is never mentioned is Crohn's. It helps alleviate symptoms and increases appetite.

But why?

Is it so bad if a patient gets a buzz?

We freaking inject MORPHINE and DILAUDID directly into their veins....sometimes round the clock....sometimes on pregnant women...sometimes on children...

Yet we have an issue with a patient smoking some marijuana?

Is it because it's illegal? If so--then make it legal!

I swear to god I don't understand. I can't.

Personally, I think we should legalize EVERY drug in order to remove the currency of drugs.

But.

We should then also allow all employers to screen and refuse employ to anybody on drugs.

We could do away with the 'drug' war while keeping the stigma intact.

If you need to use MJ cause you are disabled, so be it. But, once you use, you should be barred from legitimate employ until it clears your system.

Somehow, I feel like lots of those being morally superior with legalizing MJ for only 'medical use' would cringe at devising a way, such as above, from barring its use by working citizens for recreational purposes.

It goes directly to motive: what's the purpose here? Providing grandpa with a way to deal with debilitating illnesses, or access to MJ for Saturday night's party?

Personally, and the last twelve pages of comments and the results of the poll will mostly back me up - very few people seem to relate the use of marijuana to any kind of "stigma" at all.

And while I personally don't use it, I don't think it should have one, no more than having a couple drinks, anyway. And I think except for the brief and disastrous prohibition, the last people in this country who got bent out of shape over the demon alcohol were the Puritans... and some Southern Baptists I know - and most of them just won't ADMIT that they drink. :nono:
