Do you think this if fair???

Published

I said I wasn't going to dwell on this, but I just can't help it.

I took a test yesterday. I passed it. But.... two of the questions my instructor had on the test we never lectured on nor was it even in our book. One of my classmates, asked her how are we suppose to know about that if we never covered it?

She replied with well, I guess you won't, but now you know what it is for next time. Next time, I thought. A few of my classmates did not pass due to the two questions. I could have gotten an A if these two questions weren't there. UGH! Each question was worth five points. Yes, thats ten points I could of had. Double UGH!

That's 80 instead of 70 for a classmate.

Is she going to do this with every test from now on? Its bad enough I don't like my med/surg. book. Now, I am scared.

Do you guys think this is fair? :o

I thought I read something about not having the means to hire your own attorney. The circumstances here are perfect fodder for a class action lawsuit and that is how you and your classmates should address this. Don't remain embroiled in thoughts about this for long. Instead concentrate on getting into a program to finish your education. But please, for your own peace of mind and the future of others, take the necessary steps to bring this to a close. Talk to some of your classmates and take the other steps that have been suggested. Inform the Board. Bring it to the attention of the media. Get another attorney and start a class action suit. But spend only part of your time dealing with this. Your attention is now needed elsewhere. You have to be composed enough to convince another set of nursing school administrators to accept you into their program or take the steps to start with Excelsior. Don't let her win by giving up on your nursing degree. Good luck to you and your classmates.

I absolutely agree that I would not let this go. Follow up with BON and others mentioned ASAP. I would also call the media today. They will eat this crap up.

You should hold your head high and not allow this situation to be swept under the rug. That would be a huge injustice not just for yourself and current classmates, but all those who follow.

And get your degree!! You didn't come this far to give up with mere months to go.

I cannot speak for all states, but I have several friends in NC who are lawyers, and there is a pro bono registry for the state of NC. There's also something about a certain proportion of a firm's work HAS to be done pro bono - i.e., FOR FREE!!!

CALL YOUR STATE BAR. Someone will definitely take this case because there is a WHOPPER of a lawsuit brewing here.

And if your local TV station has a consumer advocate or a 'troubleshooter', CALL THEM. Have your act together and all the documentation you can manage and CALL THEM.

DO NOT LET THEM WIN, GIRL!!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!

What are the odds the almost same thing would happen to a person, her sister and her aunt at two different schools? Bad luck, tyrannical nursing instructors, and Chancellors overly protective of tyrannical intructors seem to follow the family around. Illinois must have terrible oversite of their nursing schools to allow this type of thing to occur so often.

Oh wait...I may have missed something. Was it posted that this happened to somebody else? I didn't read every post word for word...a lot of skimming once it was clear nothing was going to be done on this side.

I am finding out more and more things about this nursing program.

My classmates who hired the attorney told them that the program has a history law suits. One was a nursing student was kicked out of the program because she was pregnant and could not attend clinicals. Even though she had a doctor's note clearing her. Our instructor was actually transferred from another nursing program about eight years ago.

The college I attend is one of seven affilated colleges in chicago. Without breaking TOS agreement. My sister attended the one near midway airport. My aunt attended another.

I guess the whole college affilation is bad. Now, I know.

Since I am not in the lawsuit, my classmates can only tell me certain things. But, they did say that most of the colleges in the city have a history of lawsuits within the seven colleges. Why are these things being allowed? The college administrators don't care about lawsuits and losing their money? You would think that if there are lawsuits after lawsuits by nursing students that they would get it, that their is something wrong.

My grandmother told me to keep my nose clean and don't waste my money with an attorney. I am not sure about the pro bono thing as someone in this post had mentioned. I did tell my classmate who we nominated as the "spokesperson," for the group. She will be looking into it.

I am sorry that I some of you feel that I am not strong enough. I admit I am not. I don't like conflicts, if I can avoid them I usually do. But... I will fight for the rights of patients/others, just not mine. Always been that way.

I think my classmates are or will alert the media. I don't want any part of that. I am afraid of what people would think of me in this regards. Will they think we are trouble makers? Students who don't study? Will the public believe in the students or the instructors?????

For now, I am listening to my grandmother.

Thanks for all of your support. GOD Bless!

Holy moly! This thread is unbelievable! What sort of school is this? So much has been said that I don't even know where to begin.

However, the first thing I'd say is go directly to your local news stations and newspapers, do not stop! This has GOT to be brought to light. You have tangible proof of the damages they caused you to drop out of the program.

Well, maybe talk to a class action attorney first so that you don't create irreversible legal problems. Then get this plastered all over the papers and news stations.

I second looking into Excelsior to complete your program. You may have a chance to reach your goal with less of the difficulty.

Best of luck to you.

I just looked at the OP's post list to try to figure out what I had missed, too, and it appears that she posted in early January that almost exactly the same thing happened to her sister a few years ago.

Not sure what to think of that. :uhoh3:

I knew there had to be something. Thank you for digging it up.

Huh...terrible family tragedy. :icon_roll

Wonderful if it's the same school.

Hello. Read a few of the above posts. First of all, what happened with my sister happened three years ago. According to her, the nursing students were not providing tutors, or were they able to access their computer lab rooms, and skills room. The unfortunate about her situation was that their chairperson was also their nursing instructor. Therefore, not only was she on time for lectures but kept leaving the classroom to attend to meeting, leaving the students in the class to fend for themselves. She did drop out with a few classmates, and went snf started her second year over again, at a suburban school. She graduated and is now an RN..

That is why when this all started with my teacher I did NOT want any part of it. I saw my sister and their classmates, my aunt and their classmates go through so many things. I thought if I can do my work, study hard, and be quiet I would be fine.

With my aunt's situation, after she completed the nursing program and graduated. The school decided to give them a HESI Exit test. They had no idea what it was. I guess it is a very difficult test. The test was never in the student's handbook. There were 40 plus (I think. approx) students who graduated and were than given the HESI. I guess only six of them past the first one. The second try only 6 and the third try only 3. The rest of the students are out of luck. Whats really odd about her situation is that most of the students who did not pass HESI are mostly Cum Laudes and most are already LPNs. I met a few of my aunts classmates, one has a bachelors degree in biology already. An LPN who is a director of nursing at a huge nursing home facility.

We all went to different nursing programs. But I guess you can say its the same corporation. There are seven or six affilated city colleges. Administrators and chancellors are all the same for all the city colleges.

That is why I did not want nothing to do with any of this. Even though I went to a different college, the chancellors are still in charge of all seven colleges.

I am thinking about attending the school my sister went to. She kept telling me thats where I should of went in the first place. The instructors are tough but they want you to succeed. They help you, you can call them from home if you have a question. I think thats where I would go. Where educators like to teach. I like listening to instructors who still

have passion. Because I still have passion.

Its not worth for my spririt to change. I used to have the kindred spirit.

A great sense of humor. As of right now, its been difficult to smile.

A few of my classmates did hire an attorney. I did not, based on financial

situations. I had to move in with my grandmother just so I can go to school. Besides, my grandmother is not advocating the idea about attorney idea. She is my old county where things like these are accepted behavior.

I will not finishing the program here. Its been very traumatic for all of us. I don't forsee it improving. Besides, most of us feel we have been victimized already. Who wants to go through that again.

I again wanted to thank you for all of your support. If my sisters and her friends can walk away from it and start fresh somewhere else. Than I will too.

By the way, my classmates will be putting that taped conversation on youtube. after their attorney gives him consent. I guess the attorney is waiting for a reply from the school. Before he submits it to youtube.

Thanks everyone for listening. I hope everyone is doing well.

Hello, Everyone! I just wanted to let you know, several weeks ago I went to register for my Leadership class. The clerk at the registrars office said said "oh your a nurisng student, I need you to sign this form." The form read "Release of Liability." In other words I cannot sue the school - I guess. The clerk told me that I could not register for the class unless I sign this form. A few of my classmates, including myself, did not sign the form. But there were a few who did. They were determined to complete and graduate from this school. After all what they have put us through???

I guess I am out of the program. I will not sign this release of liability form. A few classmates who ascertained the attorney, advised them not to sign it.

I am thinking of switching my career. Are all nursing instructors and administration this way? I was told that they all stick together no matter what. Right or wrong. I guess that is true.

Should of I signed the form? I feel like I have become a stranger after all of this mess. Where did all go wrong?

I keep praying but I am not getting any answer.
