I'm just curious if those of you who have nurse-to-patient contact... Do you shower when you get home from work??
I'm kind of a freak when it comes to showering... I have to shower in the morning and then before bed each night... So I know once I start working in the field, I will be showering when I get home anyway, but I'm curious if I wasn't this way to begin with if I would still shower or not...
Just curious...
the facility i worked at had guest suites and i would grab the towels and the extra clothes out of the car and clean up. i always took extra clothes cause i worked excessive hours.
absolutely especially in the good ol days when our unit wasn't airconditioned. i still can manage a 5 minute shpritz off if the need arises. never more as i need to be on call....showering after each shift is recommended- i also wipe all surfaces with alcohol or chlorhexidine esp telephones (12% of which carry mrsa!!!among the doctor and nurse population)
but what bugs me are the long fake nails with stud stuck on-that so many young nurses insist on sporting- how can u work with those and keep them clean!!!
I typically take a shower within 1 hour of arriving home from work. My shifts end at 10pm, so I don't want to climb into bed without having had a shower to wash away the day's accumulation of sweat and germs. I simply feel 'cleaner' after a quick shower.I have a coworker who is a bit more extreme. We all lovingly refer to her as the 'germophobic' because she strips her scrubs off once she steps into her garage, then walks into her house naked because she doesn't want to introduce the germs to her family. She also drives home wearing plastic bags over her work shoes, so as to not contaminate her vehicle.
i do all of the above except the bags on my work shoes!! lol
No, I don't shower. I'm too damn tired--I've fallen asleep in the shower (yes, standing up) and in the bath (woke up in cold water with pruney fingers and toes). So I've decided against that.
But I do a good OR type scrubbing, fingernails up to the elbows, lotion up nice and zonk out on my nice pillow-top mattress with my down comforter. Zzzzzzz
That was the best fantasy I've had in a while.
Then again, this is my 4th 12hour shift in a row.
Nope.
But I do clean up before I leave work.... AND after I come home. I typically undress and change clothes right away however!
I'll be starting mine tomorrow noc - my second week of 4 straight in a row. Then again, this is my 4th 12hour shift in a row.
I can't wait for my paycheck this week
PS: "pruney"
That word just sounds funny
Dang, see mine isn't even OT. It's just part of my regular work. My NM (who has never worked nights, never worked 12s) has taken a fancy to messing with our schedules for some reason. So I've got no financial incentive here...and I'll have the pleasure of doing it again next month.I can't wait for my paycheck this week
If I'm still here.
I am a bit of a germophobic! When I worked in acute care, I would leave my work shoes in my locker because the thought of what was on the bottom of those was horrifying. I would then change my shoes again once in the car because there are germs in the hallways too! I would strip off my scrubs and place them in a separate bag from the rest of the laundry before taking a shower. Even if the risk is very, very low, I would never want to spread germs to my family or cat. And I felt absolutely disgusting after 12 long hours in the ER.
