Do you shower when you get off work???

Published

I'm just curious if those of you who have nurse-to-patient contact... Do you shower when you get home from work??

I'm kind of a freak when it comes to showering... I have to shower in the morning and then before bed each night... So I know once I start working in the field, I will be showering when I get home anyway, but I'm curious if I wasn't this way to begin with if I would still shower or not...

Just curious...

Yep, always! I got into that practice many years ago when I worked in the hospital with MRSA and C-Diff and other bugs. Besides, after running my fanny off for 13+hrs in poor ventilation who wants to go to bed without a shower?

I work LTC now and always shower when I get home, as well.

I remember one day I was working 19 hours, and when I got home; I went straight to my bed. I know it is hard to believe, but it is true. Anyhow, I don't think I will do it again.

sometimes I shower before work but always before bed, feel so dirty!

My gym was literally across the street from the hospital. I'd go over there to shower, even if I wasn't working out.

I like this personal thread! Great idea. I always, always take a nice long shower before work. I am paranoid about being clean for work. I must confess I don't shower right away when I come home, but I always change out of my dirty scrubs right away. I wash my hands/arms very thoroughly before I leave work. And shoes off, yuck!! I hardly ever get sick(although I am sick right now!). And, I do work in a busy ED, too. If I've had a odiferous bodily fluid filled day you can bet I hit the shower running, though!!

Years ago I had a roommate who would come home from work and while still wearing her uniform would crawl in bed and take a nap. :barf01:

I always take a shower right away when I get home from work, then it's pretty much bed time. I usually get home just after midnight, and I like to be in bed by 2am. I get up around 10, and if I work out and get sweaty, I sponge off a little bit, but I don't feel the need to shower twice. Shoes come off at the door...the only places they touch in my house are the little tile entryway and the mat that I keep them on.

When I used to work days, I would take my shower when I got home from work (around 4) unless I had errands to run - then I would just sponge off and change clothes before going out. But then I've always been a "shower-before-bed"er anyway!

I work with someone who will only handle his badge with a plastic baggie on his hands - I bet he has a real ritual when he gets home! I am just slightly germophobic in that I don't want to carry those little buggars into my house or spread them around anywhere. It's interesting to see how everyone has their own rituals!

I prefer to autoclave myself before I leave the hospital.

:D Sometimes I'd like to. ;)

I have to shower prior to going to work - it wakes me up at 0145.

I don't shower when I come home unless it has been a very germy day.

I do leave my shoes outside. And my clothes go into the basement.

My kids say I smell like old people when I get home. So a shower is a must even if it was a germ free day!
