A drug diversion committed by a staff nurse led to mandatory drug tests on the nurses at my job...mine was positive!! I was very surprised and found out that my husband who is hell bent on making trouble admits to spiking my beer!! Well to avoid restrictions and disciplines on my license i agreed to random drug tests at my expense for a year and they want me to tell my new employer about it! Im humiliated enough and about to go broke with the cost of this, chances are they may let me go..do i really have to tell them? #EmbarrassedinNC

If the BON has required that you notify an employer of findings against your license, then you're free to not tell your employer, in which case the BON is free to see that you never have a nursing license again in any state.
Views on this vary by region, but at least in my experience your employer may not really care.

Being embarrassed is much better than being unemployed.
Just tell the truth, and assure them you are following the plan the BON wants you to.
Yes, you really do have to tell them.

Yes you do. I would not tell
Them the story about ur husband spiking ur beer because it sounds absurd. Take responsibility. Idk what u were positive for but say u took it to help u sleep or relax or whatever.
Its actually the truth and he has actually admitted to it..we are in court as well..but either way he won as im tangled in this embarrassing mess.

Your husband should be charged with battery.

I do not think that that's true about the OP.. I don't know why she'd lie to us when this is completely anonymous. I would tell your current employer, whoever you can trust, and I would do this in writing. If you give enough details and don't contradict yourself you will come across as honest and trustworthy. If your employer is a half-decent one, they will understand your predicament. And if you suffer further consequences for this (such as termination from your current place of employment), I would be bringing this to court. I hope that is not the case though. I wish you the best of luck.

Who is they? They may let you go. Who is they?
How costly are these tests?
Are you and your husband still together?
What exactly does the BRN want you to tell your employer?
What about the @$#%@^ nurse who started all of this and made this trouble for you?

Best of luck with the NC BON- the only care about getting the money for your drug tests. There is no support related to how you got here, it irrelevant to them. Unfortunately, if you want to work in nursing while going through their program you do have to tell any employers. If you don't work as a nurse while completing this, there is nothing to tell after the year as long as there was no discipline. It's $78/ test don't believe them that it's 1-2 times monthly, had my 4th test this month just last week. Never missed a check in, never had a positive. They just keep testing. Good luck, hope your experience is better than mine has been!!
