Do Nurses have to do the following??

Do Nurses have to clean up after patients'?

For instance, if a patient throws up all over themselves or poops on themselves, do Nurses have to clean them up?

What is the most disgusting thing that you have done for a patient?

Give me the dirty 'lowdown' on the gritty work that some Nurses are forced to endure.

We have poo fairies at my hospital, doesn't everyone?

Yes, but they're confused, and spread the poo all over rather than removing it. Writing them up seems to do no good. :chuckle

yeah..it's our job to make our patients comfortable..for me i'm happy doing that to my patients and seeing a smile to there faces that are relieved in pain or any form of discomfort. :wink2:

Is this a trick question?

Did you honestly think that because we have the big RN or LPN behind our name that we are exempt from providing basic patient care? If you have a problem with wiping behinds and getting down to the nitty-gritty of nursing, perhaps this is not the field for you.

And ADN vs BSN *rarely* even results in a pay difference, much less difference in who wipes the butts!!

So THAT'S how C-diff gets spread, thanks for the clarification. :wink2:

oh phooey! does this mean my very very favorite purple glitter gel pen won't work? another job laid off or fired poo fairies can get is litter pan cleaning. they just love that little poop scoop... the whistling while they work can be annoying as heck if you happen to be really tired though.

^ Wow this post was very moving. (the best post in this entire thread Imo)

Thank you.

I can see very clearly now.

Nursing probably isn't the right career path for me.

Thank you very much :)

I wasn't trying to be discouraging. It just seems like people who aren't in the field already get distracted by the poop and vomit and sputum, when in reality it's about the least of our worries. You learn how to do therapeutic interactions with patients and families, it just can be emotionally draining at times. I still, after almost ten years, haven't been able to learn how to leave it all at work. Neither have many of my co-workers for that matter. It's not unusual for me to get text messages at home when one of our frequent patients passes. I know a lot of people say that you need to be able to leave work at work, but I worry that the day I get to that point, it will be indicative of me having lost something that makes me a better nurse. I just don't seem to be able to be someone who can do that.
