Hi everyeone...

I would like to be a nurse but i'm a very shy person, i heard that we have to get naked on the classroom? why is that? what do they make us do? Do they make us get naked with girls and guys together?

Hehe thanks for the help...

Wow, I can't believe this was even a question but no, we didn't have to "get naked". Although, there is one guy in my class I wouldn't mind seeing naked....but that is another thread!:p

For our bed bath, we used a mannequin. Of course, as I was turning mine over to simulate a back rub, the stupid things arm fell off! Whoops...;)

NEVER was asked to do anything that would compromise my dignity or confidentially.

Where in the world is this school? Maybe the state needs to investigate what is going on there!

We had to do EKGs on each other. Can't do it with tops on, but females were paired with females in a curtained room, and had female instructors. Males were paired with males. However, everyone behaved so professionally, it probably wouldn't have mattered to me.

As far as lung assessments, the guys always volunteered, or we went under the shirts. Mostly though, we listened to tapes.

we never had less than patient gowns with underwear on. And the lab beds were set up like a hospital room, with ample curtains. Our instructors used the labs to emphasize (along with assessment skills) our need to be aware of and accomodate patient's privacy.

There were three guys, two paired up with each other and I usually got the third as a lab partner- he happened to be gay and was not only not particularly interested in women's bodies, I think he was a bit afraid of them!

Everyone was EXTREMELY professional and we were of course not required to do anything we objected to.

I remember my lab partner being afraid to set his stethoscope in my chest to hear my apical heart beat though! I was totally comfortable with it and I am really glad he got out his anxiety on me and not a paitent!

Ted, I find that totally unbelievable that they would do that do you.

We had to wear bathing suits, boys with boys and girls with girls for our bedbath demonstration.

Well thanks to the Mods that trust in my question... Nothing i can do i'm a shy person...

But anyway thanks to everyone, i feel more confident now.

Don't feed the trolls.

When I graduated from that well known nursing school of the south "Northern Nudist University" we were ALL naked, the nursing students, the faculty and the chaplains...

I got VERY, VERY good at identifying the names of all human body parts...a valuable talent I still retain...;)

lol!!!!!!:roll :roll

A little of the subject... but I had a fellow classmate who, during summer break, would volunteer at the local D.O. school. She was the "patient" for the students to practice vag exams/pap smears on!

I guess it does liven up the old "What I did on my summer vacation" essay!

It's true tweety. What can I say.

Of course the whole thing was done professionally. And there were curtains seperating the paired off partners. Having never attended another ASN to BSN program, I think we all thought this was the norm. But we were not given any real choice. . . except, of course, to quit the course.

Was this a good or bad policy? Who knows. And has this policy changed??? Hopefully!

But I can tell you one thing. I know my lung fields.

Cheers! :)

P. S. I'm one of the bulletin board members who thought that this was a questionable thread. I thought it was a troll question too, except that apparently some programs do have their nursing students. . . get naked (or at least topless, in our case).
