Nurses LPN/LVN
Published Jul 28, 2014
It might sound like a stupid question, but whenever I see a video on youtube about an LPN they aren't wearing one; at least, not like RNs. Just wondering thats all...

Thanks guys for your answers. As a follow up do you get to wear your own scrubs? As in scrubs that don't match?
Depending on the facility policy.
As a LPN, I never worked where there was a policy where there were a scrub requirement; at my current position (as a RN) I do work at a facility were there is a dress code, and they did give out scrubs; however, they allow us to wear out own scrubs.
Hope this answers your question.

Depends on work environment and company policy. Some nurses wear business casual and a lab coat

Are you more concerned how you will appear to others as a nurse? Or are you more concerned about becoming a nurse? Your post seems to appear like you are going for a look rather than for the job/title. Jmho.

I worked in an outpatient clinic where the CNA's and other LVN's fought over that stupid little BP stand thingie. I hated it!. Every exam room had a wall unit, so I used that religiously with my stethoscope. I bought a GRX Medical CD29 off of eBay. It's as good as a Littman, at half the price.

I hope they use stethoscopes - old wooden tubes they used in my day were a real pain - could not fit in your pocket!

I think using a stethoscope is outside my scope of practice. I'll have to check.

okay so your seeing this on youtube. I am sure Rn or Lvn in a work setting you see then, beside there is no requirement that you have to wear it on your person, some have it on their clip on the side of their pants, on their medication cart, near their station. Its there because they need it to complete their assessments. Its standard for Nurses.

Really? Anyway, yes, LPNs use stethoscopes. We wear scrubs. YouTube shouldn't be where you get your nursing information. I got my Littman in nursing school and used it then and still use it every day. If I'm not checking vitals (yes, we still do it the old-fashioned way, no fancy schmancy machines here!) then I'm listening to lungs if an asthmatic pt has a low peak flow reading to detect any wheezing. Scrubs depend on your facility, some places tell you what colors to wear and you can buy your own, some have a set uniform look and they provide some for you, and some don't care just as long as it's clean and not offensive. I knew one person who made her own scrubs and had a camo set.

We wear assigned colors. We have a dress code. Make-up is encouraged:alien:
as it makes nurses appear more professional. No lie.
I think there's something sexist in there somewhere, but I'm not sure.

I've never been "encouraged"to wear makeup at work. That encouragement makes me want to throw mine away.

I work in a clinic where everything is done the old fashioned way, so if I didn't use a stethoscope I wouldn't be able to take my patient's blood pressures or listen to lung sounds
As for scrubs, the LPNs wear royal blue and the clinic does not provide them. MAs wear purple.
