or go to nursing school and than find out they are still in the Pre Req phase? I swear I have seen a good number of people do this, and than when I say, "Oh what semester are you in, I am in this semester" they are like, Oh well I am not actually in yet but I start pre reqs soon, or I just started pre reqs. I wonder why that is. Before I started the actual program I would say if asked that I was doing Pre Reqs to get into the nursing program. Or I am on the waitlist for the nursing program.

It might just be simpler? I told people I was in prerequisites and then they'd turn around and introduce me to people as a nursing student. Maybe they assume that people asking them what they study don't want the full details about how nursing school works?
I understand why some people are not too thrill when students who are either finishing up their pre-reqs or starting their pre-reqs for the nursing program call themselves nursing students. It takes years and tears and sweat to get into the program and then some more tears and sweat to finish the program. I just got accepted into the nursing program and I never called myself a nursing student while finishing up my pre-reqs simply because I'm not. Someone posted that there is no such thing as a pre-nursing degree, I guess it depends on the school. When I was finishing up my pre-reqs in CA I had to declare a major and one of the major was pre-nursing. Also, someone mentioned that the nursing pre-req are strictly for the nursing program so therefore they are nursing students, I can say that is not true at least when I was in CA. Whether one wants to be doctor or nurse, he or she needs to take AP1, AP2, Chem, Micro, and so forth. So, most of the pre-reqs are not directly for nurses but for healthcare professions.
As for the girl that brought the kit, I had a friend who did that simply because it helps remind her of her goals. I doubt that girl knew that the kits are limited and the school should have some policy to prevent students who are not in the nursing program from purchasing such item. I know that nursing students have different ids than other students so maybe the school should have the policy that whoever buys such kits need to show their nursing students ids.
Everyone that posted here have a good point. In some way, it doesn't bother me that people introduce themselves as nursing students when they're not, but I understand for the student in the nursing program how that can be pet peeves. Personally, I do not like it when people demoralize the nursing profession as easy because its not. It's hard work and students that just starting their pre-reqs don't realize its THAT hard to get into the program.
Weird, I don't see where anyone was saying they were better than anyone else. In fact I always get excited for the pre-nursing students I meet and tell them about the program. Also always am happy for my friends when they do well.
It annoys me for sure for one main reason: Its extremely competitive to get into Nursing programs these days and I worked my butt of to get in and stay in. So people should not claim they are nursing students when they are pre nursing. I had a lady tell me she was in the nursing program and when we started she was no where to be found. When I ran into her and I asked her why I havent seen her around she felt dumb to say the least and admitted she was prenursing and wouldnt start untill next semester.I just dont understand why some people feel the need to be dishonest in this regard...
Dishonesty doesn't seem as important as somesones own pride.
"I worked my butt of to get in and stay in. So people should not claim they are nursing students when they are pre nursing."
This statement is different than being annoyed with others' dishonesty. It's more of a prideful......."I earned my place and you didn't" ..yet...kind if thing.
That attitude is annoying.
Yessss...it is dishonest. I'm arguing that dishonesty is not what annoys these students. I feel it is a superiority/pride thing.
You are right...we all have our annoyances.
I know they teach you guys all that Maslow's heirachy stuff. Well at the top...right... is self actualization. So part of being at the top is "intellectual humility".
I personally don't think I'm past the second tier....although I do believe in being humble.

For me it's probably a little of both. I do take pride in where I am at. It's been a rough road to get here and nursing school is far from the hardest thing I have done. Getting to this point was harder than the program itself and by getting here I mean the struggles in my life. So I do take pride in that. But my bigger issue is the dishonesty which I feel it is. When you tell me you are a nursing student and I get excited for you and I know how hard it was to get in, than I go to share with you and find out "well I'm not actually in nursing school yet, I just started English 101 and sociology and I am expected to start august 2016" yea I feel lied to and annoyed. Had you just said you just said you were doing pre reqs for the program I still would have been excited and shared with you what's coming. I remember how excited I was. But just be honest.
Wanted to add the "you" in my above post is meant to be general. I'm sure it's obvious but can never be to sure.
whatever. I really don't care at all.
I'm prideful that I graduated...at the top of my class.
I just feel hopeful for the kids in pre-nursing. i wouldn't want any nursing student acting arrogant towards them........b/c they are about to go through some sh*t and they need support.
And you said you give that to them and so I commend you.
You seem like an awesone person.....i just chose to start a dumb argument. IDK.
I saw something weird in some of the statements and I responded defensively b/c i thought some of the comments were bs.
