Do you guys see a lot of people saying they are nursing students....

or go to nursing school and than find out they are still in the Pre Req phase? I swear I have seen a good number of people do this, and than when I say, "Oh what semester are you in, I am in this semester" they are like, Oh well I am not actually in yet but I start pre reqs soon, or I just started pre reqs. I wonder why that is. Before I started the actual program I would say if asked that I was doing Pre Reqs to get into the nursing program. Or I am on the waitlist for the nursing program.

I'm having a strange feeling that you didn't do well on your critical thinking assessments....to the new student

Wrong. It must be that superior attitude you were arguing about. Must have seeped in.

intellectual humility = humility.

pride is not humility.

How are your critical thinking assessments going?

Nope. Not until Tuesday and its my last lecture.

I cannot stand when people say they are in the program, and either taking pre-reqs or waiting to get signed up for them. There is a huge difference between the two, for in the program there is nursing insurance, you have to PRACTICE doing nursing work, where as pre-reqs you are not required to get nursing student insurance, a uniform, and legally sign your name with NS or SN at the end of it. I was a CNA, I am in nursing school and the two are quite different considering everything from A to Z is different. CNA's may do some of what a nurse can do, but nothing invasive, they dont document in SMART, and nursing students are more liable, have to make a higher grade than those in pre-reqs, and it just isnt close to being in the nursing program. I think that many people say that to make their self look more important or actually working towards what they want, when in fact, it is a lie to say you are in a nursing program when you aren't. It is a lie and illegal for a nursing student to say they are an LPN or RN.

Can't say it really bothers me. To be honest. I have noticed it, but never really gave it much thought.

Geez. I don't get why this would offend anyone. Of course, it would be terrible for someone to claim they are an actual NURSE if they aren't yet. But to say you're a nursing student when you're doing pre-reqs? So what? Depending on the school, you may officially be in the nursing major while doing pre-reqs anyway.

I think it's an awfully elitist thing to get mad about. No one begrudges my sister for saying she's a chemistry student, even though she is currently only taking one 200-level chemistry class along with gen eds. Still, she is a chemistry student! So why shouldn't a nursing student say s/he is a nursing student? For example, I am taking pre-reqs, but I'm also taking classes that are particular to the nursing major.

Again I will say this is a silly, elitist thing to complain about. There's no reason why every nursing student ought to walk on tiptoes to make sure we don't offend nursing students who are a bit futher along! Talk about making the newbies feel unwelcome

Does it really matter what they say they are in? Either way they are in school to become a nurse. Is it the distinction that makes you feel better? if so, you may be in the wrong profession. You should be a nurse because its what you enjoy, not for bragging rights.

It always amazes me how many assumptions someone can make from a statement. Tons of reading into what is said and turning it into things that weren't said.

Really makes me wonder if the posts are even actually read or if some people are just so hyper-defensive they only see what they want to see.
