Do you call IN or OUT sick?

I'm just curious. Do you...

call IN sick; or

call OUT sick

:[anb]:

"Call in" sick.

Everyone at my hospital uses that phrase, too. I never heard "call off sick" until these forums. Maybe it's a regional thing?

Do you put the toilet paper with the edge on the top side or the side underneath :)?

To me this is simply a matter of preference.

Call IN to call OFF work, then call OUT for a pizza delivery....ahhh, just kidding. I jest. :smokin:

It's probably regional like soda vs pop! We say call off, I have heard call in but I have never heard anyone say call out! Live and Learn!

OMG! It's the LAW about keeping the toilet paper with the edge on the top side. ;)

I think it's a government thing. palinwinky2f.gif

We call IN (as in calling IN to the supervising RN); it used to be fine to call in and speak with a "licensed nurse" to report you'd not be in. So, of course LPNs could take "call-in's" but then policy changed to where it had to be an RN who took the call; never any reason given as I recall. I still find that odd since when one calls in, no reason has to be given, merely a statment of "I won't be in for my shift."

I think that if you are the one that is sick and calling in... then the phrase is "calling in sick" but if you are the one that is working and reporting it to someone else then you would say that the person called out.

But hey... I could be wrong!

You call IN to say you'll be OUT sick.

You call IN to say you'll be OUT sick.

agree with above post-----

I 'CALL IN' to tell them I won't be coming to work.

Have never heard the phrase "call out" until I read it here on AN.

I never heard of "call out" or "call off" until I read it on AN either. It may be a regional thing like someone else said.
