Discarded babies

Published

In the news this week, a newborn was found in a ditch at around 6 a.m. naked buy still covered in bodily fluids. It was around 20 degrees here when this baby was found.

HOW does this happen?

The mother for lack of a better word has not come forward yet. The police are saying they are not interested in pressing charges at this time.

I don't understand for the life of me how someone can bring a life into this world and then just toss the child into a ditch...no blanket, no bath...nothing

Even if she were very very young, most 10-11 yo girls won't even put a pet out in this frigid weather...so how does one toss a baby out?

The mother was probably insane.

If she wasn't; if she was just a garden variety psychopath she would have had an abortion long before it was born--or just before it was born.

What???? DO I need to put on eyeglasses, surely I misunderstand here???? IF not, this is a disgraceful statement. this says to me, a person who has an abortion is a garden-variety psychopath. Please tell me I am wrong?

Here's another spin that is bound to get me flamed. IT'S OK I AM A BIG GIRL and I have my suit on:

In college I knew a girl who became pregnant. Now it was not obvious to her friends and aquaintances in college, she was very thin and managed to camoflage it in big clothes etc. I lived in the same dorm as she and yet did NOT KNOW SHE WAS PREGNANT, either. Well, time came the girl went into labor.

Shockingly, She labored alone in her dorm room (she had a private room,so no roommate to discover her even) and delivered a stillborn baby. Not knowing what to do, I am certain, and probably in shock, the girl wrapped the dead child in sheets and tossed the body down the trash chute.

Yes, the next day the baby was found. And soon enough, they were able to find out what happened--- as I came to learn---- this gal developed some serious complications from her unattended birth.

She was 18. She was alone. She was 300 miles from home. No parents there for her in the aftermath, which tells me they probably were not there for her to go to in the first place. NO boy friend in sight. Don't know what happened there. Should she have gone to PP or some other "crisis center"? No doubt, but for whatever reason, she did not. Fear, ignorance, I am not sure. But it was a sad story.

Do I feel horror at this story? yes. Do I feel sympathy for this girl? Oh yes, I do. I don't even know the story of the conception; maybe the pregnancy was result of rape, for all I know. SHE HAS A STORY SHE DID NOT GET TO TELL, is what I saying...it was sad. All the papers detailed was the story of the baby in the trash chute and who the mother was and that the baby was, in fact, dead when he ( I dinstinctly remember them saying it was a BOY), was put there. Nothing about HER and her mental state or even how she was doing after recovery. This girl wound up in a psychiatric ward for a while after this incident, and to this day, I have no idea what became of her. Now, knowing PERSONALLY the story I told you, I have some questions in my mind before I convict the unknown mother of this poor dead baby:

Could it POSSIBLY BE this baby was born stillborn, too, to an equally-terrified young mother who had no resources and FELT , at least in her mind, she had NO WHERE TO TURN? Maybe it's possible. Am I horrified? yes. AM I sorry? yes. But do we KNOW HER SIDE OF THIS TRAGIC STORY? NO!

SO before we crucify her in our minds, let us be mindful we don't know the whole story. We don't even know if the baby was born alive before it was tragically "dumped". Let's try to remember there is always more than one side to story and how much the media LOVES to SHOCK and HORRIFY. After all, it sells newspapers, right??????

I am waiting to hear "the rest of the story" before I lay judgement on this girl. I know not *her* story.

I'd like to go on record here at allnurses as a woman who will gladly provide your child a loving home if you choose to kill it, or dump it somewhere. Send me a "PM", and let me know where to pick up the baby. You don't need to present yourself to me...just bring me the baby. I will see to it that it remains protected by law...the legal way. Whatever the reason you don't want your baby...remember you can post that you don't want it, and let me or someone on this site know where to pick the baby up so social services can find it a loving home, unless they let me personally adopt it. Do NOT throw the baby away! :nono:

Being as I just went thru a tragic miscarriage, I can safely say this story upsets me. Still, I will NOT convict this person in my mind until I know the WHOLE story, first!!! I want to know about HER , too.

What amazes me is that you need a license to fish, hunt and even haul garbage but any moron can have a child to abuse or kill.

Just another symptom of an ailing society. Disposable diapers, disposable kids. So very tragic and sad.:o

This has been going on for centuries. Every now and again they tear down old homes around my way and discover remains of infants in wells or buried in the basement and after investigation rule that the child died in the 1700s.

Obviously these are women not in a right state of mind. Everyone knows you can give a baby up for adoption, but you have to have yourself together to get to a hospital and have the baby in the first place.

sad but true. i know this as an OB nurse, as well as anyone.

In re: to Smiling BluEyes' story:

As horrifed as I am by this story, I must say...that is a good point. I just wish that mothers would not be so fearful and scared of going to place (PP) that are there to HELP you. They don't judge (at least as far as I know...my friends that have used PP have no bad stories to tell, yet that doesn't mean much I suppose).

However, seeing as that I, myself, have never been in that situation, I can't really judge others for their actions without knowing motivations---Good Point BluEyes. Thank you for bringing that to my attn.

you are right, PP is there for these gals and they are VERY nonjudgemental. Too bad, when girls do this, like pointed out earlier, their mental state is NOT shall we say, normal. So they don't often reason well. It's just plain sad all the way around. Very sad.

I am starting to think that beofre people can reproduce they should have to go thru the hoops we did when trying to adopt. These morons just pop em out and we had to "prove" we were able financiall, physically, familywise able and fit to parent. If that were the case about half expectant parents would be disqualified.

Laura (childless and NOT by choice)

Here in Ohio you can drop the baby off at a hospital or police station( I think) and walk away with no questions and no legal problems I think that this is a good thing.

I believe that this baby was found alive, not still born. Last I heard on the news, he was doing well. I do agree though that anyone who does something like this needs help of one kind or another. I just hopes she gets it.
