Did anything really help you pass nclex?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Ive read a few post about what the best book to buy for nclex review, and seems like noone really says how much they helped, more like how nothing really compares to the real test. Maybe there is another way to study? Its seems like nclex must be more about how you feel about safety than what you know about med surg since ive heard that nclex test on stuff you havent really studied... maybe that kaplan decision tree is better than people think when you add in maslow/abc's.

I envy you. My program's pass rate is in the 60s. And they take 80 students three times a year so that is a lot of students failing. I'm half way through the program and am very fearful of when the time to take NCLEX comes. I know what I've got to do; it's just a bummer that the program I attend is causing me so much more work since I'm not getting it during theory or clinicals.

They are going to lose accreditation if they don't improve. Complain to your school admins. You are paying for your education!

I went school in NYC, one of the CUNY college. Our exams were always so hard and we complained about it a lot. But our passing level is I think 99% .. Most time only 1 person fails out of 45-50 test takers.

The fact that they are allowed to continue to operate with a 60% passing rate is kind of surprising to me. My state's BON puts programs on probation if their passing rate drops below 80%.

If you have the money for it, Virtual ATI is wonderful. I used it to pass NCLEX-PN a few years back because it was paid for in my school tuition. I had my own tutor to work with me. She gave me homework assignments and reviewed my progress. When she was confident that I was ready to pass NCLEX, she greenlighted me to take the test. Not only did I know the material I needed to pass, I also went into the test with confidence, and passed in 85 questions. I recommend Virtual ATI highly.

I totally agree with you. I was always saying during nursing school, that wish I could go private school and pass easily. I went CUNY and they screwed us. I was reading at same time two different med surge book and doing all nclex style questions. But our passing rate #2 in New York State. Usually 1-2 students fails at first attempt out of 50.

I passed in 75. Definitely needed a refresher but I didn't want to spend an absurd amount of money for. I did the 3 week NCSBN for questions and I found a 90+ page study guide on youtube for $30.00. I think it's up to $50.00 now. All I did was read a couple of pages and did questions daily. After all the questions and going through that study guide 3 times, I passed. Everybody has their own method/reviews. Good luck!

I haven't taken boards yet (I'm taking it next month) but I just finished the live Hurst review and LOVED it. I know that it's expensive, but I figure if it helps me pass, then it is worth it. It was a great refresher course and now I have 6 test that are 125 questions each to take. I also have the Prioritization and Delegation book I am working through.

What you have to remember is that everyone learns differently. We had 4 people in our Hurst review course who had taken the Kaplan review and said they didn't learn a dang thing and failed boards the first time they took it. People on this post have said they used Kaplan and it works for them. It depends on your learning style.

My school has a passing rate of 54-55% :(

Now I'm definitely feeling the unpreparedness as I'm studying for NCLEX

The only thing that matters is the quality of the education you get. I used Saunders because I thought I had to review and really only did questions during the week before testing and passed with 75 questions.

After taking the test, I realized I didn't need to review. To me it was an easy test, but again, my program prepared me very well. Pass rate for my school when I graduated was around 97% I think. I also had (have) a high GPA, so that helps too.

One of instructed was saying that if one school passing level below 75% they don't get accreditation and program close down. I mean 55% passing rate terrible. You can be brilliant student but I'm speaking generally. Something must wrong and they need to change it.

1. A nursing school with a high passing rate for obvious reasons.

2. Practice tests!! You don't know what topics will be touched on the exam but learning HOW to take the exam is vital! The more you do them the more you will see that although questions will be different there are recurring concepts.
