DH dying-need prayers

I've posted before about my husband being terminally ill and complications that have come up, but this is the worst it has every been. Currently in ICU with ARDS and sepsis, placed on dialysis yesterday. On a vent, paralytic, the whole works.

Miraculously he has been showing signs of improvement. CXR went from a complete white out to having distinguishable upper lobes, heart, ET. That was amazing. Has been running a PEEP of 20. Went in this morning to a stunned looking pulmonologist telling me that the lungs are regaining some elasticity so they got the PEEP down to 8. (PTL!)

I have been glued to his bedside but am home tonight as I had nobody to take care of our 5 year old. Besides she is desperate for some mommy time and vice versa. I was actually sleeping peacefully and his brother called and woke me up. Couldn't go back to sleep and felt God telling me to get on here and get as many prayers as possible going so that dh can get over the hump. My brother in law is an atheist but I continue to witness to him about God in my life and God's ability to heal if it is in his will.

Please, all you that can pray, please help me out on this one. His name is Dan and I love him more than anything. He had not made a decision for the Lord before he was intubated so that is a big reason for wanting him to wake up and have one more chance.

Thanks in advance to all. You guys are wonderful support.

Praying for you, your dear dh and your daughter. May God shine his mercy down on all of you.

Hey Nursejoey,

Just wanted to let you know that I'm still praying for you and your family. Keep strong in your faith. May you feel the peace that passes all understanding and receive his boundless strength. If you need anything that I can do, please PM me.

Day 19...miracle of all miracles his platelets got up to 68,000 and they got the trach done with no problem. The colonostomy improved many things. He is no longer septic. His CXR was "a little bit better-nothing to brag about" said the doctor while he had a gigantic smile on his face. He is completely off BP meds and his BP is holding steady. They removed 5 liters off of him during dialysis today. Kidney doc said that although they are doing all they can, there is "clearly something more at work here". Kidney doc also says that my dh must have a very strong love for me and our DD. Someone had asked if DD gets to visit. She has been in there 4 days total. I told them that it's harder for her not being able to visit because she always visits and couldn't figure out what was so different from THIS room. They were afraid that it would give her nightmares to see daddy like that. But then she showed the nurse the hospital bed and IV pump/pole she had made for her little 2 inch bunny. (sorry if I told that before, can't remember). I wanted her to see him tonight so she could understand what a trach was when we talked about it. She has no issues with anything. Thinks all the machines are there to help daddy. Even wearing isolation garb causes no issues for her. She holds his hand, kisses him and talks lovingly to him. He is showing signs of waking up. Grimmacing, blinking, trying to turn his head, moving his mouth like he is trying to talk, raising his eyebrows, and he moved one arm today after a sternal rub. (Hates sternal rubs-probably wanted to punch the nurse). Today's specific prayer requests: liver function and mental function. They are going to scan his brain again in the next coupld days to see if the small hemorrhages have turned into anything. Thank you for all of your faithful prayers!

Please keep us posted...you are in all of our hearts!

I've got tears in my eyes at the proof of God's mercy and love! I'm so glad your DH is doing better! It's answer to prayer with many more prayers that will continue to be lifted up. Remember to schedule some down time for yourself so you can recharge, even if it's only an hour soak in a bubblebath with a good book, candles going, relaxing music and a cup of tea.

will include you in my prayers...keep up your faith...

Although I haven't posted before I have followed this thread. I just want to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. It is wonderful that things are looking up for you. God Bless

Day 20...so today they tell me that they are going to start planning for his transfer to the long term vent weaning hospital. That will be hard because whatever one they choose will be at least an hour away, probably more and in winter time. But God is merciful so I will drive there everyday that I am able. Don't have a time frame yet.

Nurse Joey - good luck. Prayers and cyber hugs coming your way. How is your daughter doing?

Day 21...My little girl is doing quite well, thank you. Her throat has healed up nicely, no more pain, no complications. She touches the hearts of the ICU nurses and doctors. She is visiting regularly now. Gets her infection control garb on, goes in the room, gets her step stool that they have in there for her now, kisses daddy and starts talking. He definitely has a reason to live. Today was a "good" day. They did not do dialysis today and he had a good urine output anyway. His lungs sound clear. Liver function is better. He's still way snowed, but making more movements, expecially expressing when he is in pain. Stopped the morphine IV today to try to speed up his awakening and converted the amiodarone IV to feeding tube. On the vent, FI02 is 36% and PEEP is 8. No news about the transfer yet. Oh, and they got him out of MRSA isolation when I was there this evening. My dd is spending new year's eve with her brother and his kids (Supposedly) and I will be with DD encouraging him to start the new year right by waking up soon! As always, I am VERY thankful for the continuing thoughts and prayers. God bless each one of you.

I'm glad to hear that your husband started moving again. I'll keep praying for you and your family.

I wish you a happy new year.

Bye, Michiel Messink

Said a prayer. Best of luck to you and your family
