Taking a child off life support
I can understand that the mother does not want to let her son go but the kid's braindead which is pretty logical when you consider the fact that he shot himself in the neck with a 9mm round. As an outsider I would say that the hospital is completely right in this case and they should take the boy off life support. It's senseless to keep someone alive who is already dead.

Favorite Wrist Watch?
Are watches not considered to be an infection hazard in the US? Here in the Netherlands they are and we're even forbidden to wear watches while at work.

extra clothes
Luckily I don't have to buy any uniforms myself. Everything is provided for by the hospital so if my uniform were to get dirty I would simply grab a new one(first clinical in one month)

My Sweet Little Angel Patient Passed Away Today
Brita, my condolences for your loss. I wish there were more people on this planet like you. It takes a special person to care for someone for three years. I'm confident that your patiënt is in heaven now, having the time of her life so don't be too sad about her and continue caring for other people as you cared for her. I think that is what she'd want you to do.

Atheist or Agnostic?
That woman has gone completely insane. What she did their has got nothing to do with Christianity. It's people like her that I fear and hate the most. Extremism of any form is wrong, because it will always hurt someone else. If you ask me, than extremist views/beliefs should be fought against in any way that is possible without compromising basic rights such as freedom of speech and religion.

Atheist or Agnostic?
I myself am a Christian but I'm also convinced that all religions are valid. I don't think that there is one single religion that is The Truth. If you ask me than Islam is just as valid as Christianity or Budhism. I do believe in the existence of one single supremeg being we call God but that if he wanted every single human to adhere to one interpretation of one particular belief, then why are there so many different religions on this planet? If you ask me, it doesn't matter what you believe, as long as your a good person. What does make me mad is religious fundamentalists who want to impose their faith on others. People who think like that can make me go steaming mad because they are so wrong! Did you know that most fundamentalist interpretations of both the bible and the quran are simply plain wrong? Take a minute to think about that. Bye, Michiel Messink

are you born a nurse or do the nursing instructors make you a nurse?
I think that having a "calling" to become a nurse is very well possible and I think that there are most certainly nurses out there who are in the profession because they have what they experience to be a calling to be a nurse. For me personally, I found nursing to be something I really like and I also couldn't see myself doing any other type. I do believe that for a part, instructors change you into a nurse. This goes for me at least. Since I started nursing school about 7 months ago I have noticed some changes in the way I behave, for example I have become a bit less impatient with people than I was before, that sort of thing. I do believe, that in order to be able to become a good nurse you have to be a kind person, not extremely so but just plain normal kind. My 2 cents. Bye, Michiel Messink

Vaginal breech
Thanks for the explanation ChayaN.

Vaginal breech
May sound stupid, but could somebody explain to me exactly what a breech delivery is?

Where are you from?
I'm a nursing student in the Netherlands. I don't have any plans to go to the US. Life is to good here. Bye, Michiel Messink

Cost of LPN school these days?
aaargh. 20000 US dollars for one year of school in the US? Here in the Netherlands I only have to pay about 2500 Euros/3000 US dollars a year for nursing school, and that includes books. Uniforms are provided by the hospital. I guess I have to consider myself lucky. How much of your education is paid for by taxes?

Nurse dates doctor openly at work.
I think we're looking at this story about a nurse dating a married doc too much from one side. The information is also one-sided, none of us knows all the circumstances. I for one, before passing judgment would like to know all the circumstances. What has led this married doc to dating with this nurse? Perhaps his wife is a complete b*tch and he intends to leave somewhere in the near future and he is more happy with this nurse than with his wife. If such were the case, than I for one, would condone or approve their relationship and simply let them be. I think that it is not wise to judge others unless you know all the circumstances which led to this relationship.

Nurse dates doctor openly at work.
Does their relationship interfere with their ability to perform their jobs right? If so, than I might report them, if addressing them about the issue doesn't work. If it doesn't interfere with their ability to perform their jobs correctly than I would not report them because then it is none of my bussiness. Just my opinion on the matter.
