DFW GN/RN June 2011 Internships

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I've seen threads discussing this topic so I'm hoping to combine all of the discussions and include everyone.

Who else is applying to June GN/RN internships is the Dallas and Fort Worth area? Where have you applied and what feedback have you received? Does anyone who applied to previously posted internships and got accepted or rejected have any advice for us?

Personally I'm a BSN Dec 2010 grad with a new TX RN license and I've applied to any openings I could find in the ED and women & infant services as well as a few random telemetry and critical care spots. I have had 1 phone interview and I have a phone interview and in-person interview scheduled for next week. Im keeping my fingers crossed that something will go well!!!

Good luck to all of us new grads in this tough job market!! :redpinkhe

I am a ADN and a Texas resident. I didnt think it would be this hard to get a job.

twnurse_2010 .....do u have any clue as to how is it for out of state residents with adn in texas

No I do not have a clue about out of state ADN. Its hard enough for us that are in state. Where have you applied? Also try smaller hospitals like Doctor's, Lakepointe, Centennial medical they are all part of Tenet Health. Good luck we all need it.

Meggo- did u apply for telemetry @ baylor, do u have BSN and do u reside in texas

Yes to everything. I'm not expecting to hear from Baylor tele though seeing as I have already had phone interviews for Baylor ED and Baylor OB (which include my top 3 positions). I'm not going to push my luck and try to contact that recruiter.

Meggo - thats great u had 2 phone interviews already and for the positions u wanted is even better...........how did the interview go.....wut kind of questions do they ask in a phone interview...........never had one........and how long did it last

Thanks, I'm hoping to hear about coming in to interview with the nurse managers within the next several weeks. Once you interview with Baylor all of the departments have access to your interview so the 2nd recruiter I spoke with just asked a few department-specific qs. You can google interview questions, there are lots of good articles online to help you prepare.

I also second what twnurse_2010 said about it being so difficult for those of us who live here to get jobs. I applied before living here and found it extremely difficult.

I still haven't heard from Baylor tele yet.. but I guess they have started looking through applications now. I'm sorry to those who didn't get accepted, but there are still more jobs waiting for you all :) I will pray for all of us!

I applied for an internship at THR-HEB for the ER and med/surg. I didn't get a rejection letter but I got a job and organizational fit assessment survey yesterday. It was super long! Did anybody get these?

Most of the local hospitals are not hiring ADNs for the June internships. My school's graduating class for May is having extreme difficulty finding work. I was told by an HCA nurse recruiter of a local hospital that they had over 300 applications for 30 internship slots and their first step for weeding out was to chop all ADN applicants other than those already affiliated with the hospital (working externships there or employees).

It is a tough market out there right now. Good luck everyone. Many of the local hospitals are pursuing Magnet status and so are showing huge preference for BSN candidates. If you are a BSN from out of state you might at least get looked at. I don't think an ADN from out of state has a prayer with a DFW hospital at this time. I do hear though that places like Tyler, Wichita Falls and more rural hospitals along the Texas/Mexico border are potentially hiring ADNs.

I applied to the THR-HEB ER internship as well...I filled out the surveys last week sometime (I think) and I received a phone call today to set up an interview. I'm not sure if you've checked, but if you go to their website and log in you can check on the status of your application. I actually knew I was going to get an interview before they called this morning because when I checked my status yesterday it said "Interview to be scheduled."

Congratulations on the interview! good luck. I applied for the internship through indeed.com so it didn't save my profile. I can't go back to check the status =( I guess I'll wait to see if I get a call back. In the meantime, I have an interview at Parkland for the GI lab next week. *Crossing my fingers*

ali523 - I got a call this morning to interview for the same position! Do you know how many positions they need to fill? I am soo excited!!
