DFW GN/RN June 2011 Internships

Published

I've seen threads discussing this topic so I'm hoping to combine all of the discussions and include everyone.

Who else is applying to June GN/RN internships is the Dallas and Fort Worth area? Where have you applied and what feedback have you received? Does anyone who applied to previously posted internships and got accepted or rejected have any advice for us?

Personally I'm a BSN Dec 2010 grad with a new TX RN license and I've applied to any openings I could find in the ED and women & infant services as well as a few random telemetry and critical care spots. I have had 1 phone interview and I have a phone interview and in-person interview scheduled for next week. Im keeping my fingers crossed that something will go well!!!

Good luck to all of us new grads in this tough job market!! :redpinkhe

Thanks guys for creating (and participating in) this forum, its nice to know we're not alone during this waiting game! I've applied to L&D positions at Baylor, Parkland and JPS...I'll update if/when I hear anything.

PS. I'm finishing up my BSN in Maryland - so I fall into that out-of-state category...hopefully my gpa and work experience will weigh more heavily than my current location!

Meggo - where are the Baylor positions located that you did your phone interviews? I have not gotten rejection letters or been called for any of my Baylor applications. I am also looking at OR and L&D in FW. I currently work for Baylor as a Nurse Tech

The phone interviews were department specific not hospital specific.

Now I'm starting to be very nervous. I haven't gotten a call for any of the positions I applied to :( and haven't gotten any rejection letters either

Most of the local hospitals are not hiring ADNs for the June internships. My school's graduating class for May is having extreme difficulty finding work. I was told by an HCA nurse recruiter of a local hospital that they had over 300 applications for 30 internship slots and their first step for weeding out was to chop all ADN applicants other than those already affiliated with the hospital (working externships there or employees).

It is a tough market out there right now. Good luck everyone. Many of the local hospitals are pursuing Magnet status and so are showing huge preference for BSN candidates. If you are a BSN from out of state you might at least get looked at. I don't think an ADN from out of state has a prayer with a DFW hospital at this time. I do hear though that places like Tyler, Wichita Falls and more rural hospitals along the Texas/Mexico border are potentially hiring ADNs.

I go to school in Tyler, and I have to say its not simple there either. We are graduating about 90 from the BSN program in May and then the ADN program here is going to graduate a good 40 and the majority of them are staying in Tyler because the Job market in big cities are so bad, just to get the experience under their belt.

Princess I am feeling nervous as well. Seems like everyone but me is hearing sommethig whether good or bad. I would at least like to hear something. I e-mailed the recruiter at Baylor for Womens services yesterday. Hope to hear something soon. The waiting is killing me!

Hi, I'm new to this site, but as of recently when I started getting nervous about getting a job I ran into this site.

I have applied to basically all of the hospitals in DFW.

I had an interview with UT Southwestern OR Internship and I have an interview with Denton Regional Critical Care coming soon.

The only rejections I've received from Baylor have been OR and Med/Surg (which weren't my top choices)..but still no word..from them, Parkland, THR, Methodist...I haven't even seen any GN positions up for Med City or Childrens! I want to pull my hair out. I'm hoping that maybe I can get my foot in the door with critical care and eventually move to a facility that gives me different trauma experiences. Any advice? Thanks!

Baylor just emailed me and I got rejected for NICU as well :(

I'm sorry to hear that :( I just happened to check my e-mail today and Parkland ER sent me a message requesting an interview so I guess I started freaking out too soon, but it's so suspenseful waiting for the responses from the different hospitals!!!

Baylor sent me a rejection for NICU also, I still havent heard from THR.

texag09- I applied for Parkland's ER also but I did not get a call or email. Did they say how many positions were available?
