Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?

Hi Shanna349,

I was had a couple of questions for you about Brookhaven:

1) Do you remember what the lowest number of points was for acceptance?

and

2) How was the HESI? Did the study guide help much? (oops I guess that's 3 questions, huh?!) I'm a little worried about the A & P section.

Thanks in advance,

Sandy

Well, see your welcome message above....I edited the above message, but you've already read it. HAHA

THANK YOU! And good luck to you to- DCCCD makes the best ADN nurses!!!!! (I'm not biased or anything)

The score went up after the year I applied. I would venture to say that you need at least a 21 on your HESI (86 or above?) and definatly ALL your supports completed to give you a good shot at placement to the interview process. ...but then again, you never know who's applying, so dont hesitate to turn it in cuz it cant hurt!

Dont worry about AP.

and no, the review did not help much as far as content of questions. Study the basics of AP in your AP book.

Good Luck!!!

The reason the CPR cards are only good for a year is because the HOSPITALS require them to be renewed every year - including any students who are doing rotations there. Even housekeeping, admitting, pharmacy and non-direct patient care staff have to have annual CPR in most hospitals. That's why DCCCD requires you to renew them every year. It isn't their fault :)

I'd rather "be bothered" with it every year, and *KNOW* I remember how to do it, than to do it every 2 years and wonder if I will remember what to do, if the need is there.

It is so important. I don't see it as a thing to gripe about. However, sitting in class is a nuisance. :chuckle

There always seems to be at least one person you pray that he/she isn't the one that is around if you ever need CPR.

...but, I guess some training is better than no training at all. :)

Im not putting anyone at fault for it. I actually totally agree with it. I was just expressing what I heard most of my class complain about when renewal time approached. I understand 100% with the reasoning of hospitals and schools requiring the annual renewal as opposed to the bi-annual date thats on the card.

I think what happened was the bomb about CPR renewal was dropped on us when we were already forking out so much money and we weren't given time to prepare. But then again, I've learned that asking for a nursing school without surprises is well....asking FAR too much hahaha

I have just decide to go into the whole thing with my wallet wide open. Every time you turn around you are going to have to fork over a wad of cash. I'm VERY cheap so I've prepared myself for the trauma of an empty wallet! lol :rotfl:

18 days from OCTOBER 15TH!!!

I know they try to warn ya that you will have to shell out...they dont do a very good job do they? It isnt just DCCCD, its every nursing school anywhere for the most part.

Some schools put together a list of all the expenses for books and uniforms and stuff and break them down each semester for you. Maybe you guys could put together a list like that to share with future students.

DCCD gives you a list that outlines expenses for each semester.

Of course little things (that cost a few hundred dollars) always seem to pop up! :rotfl:

Oh well, It will be worth it in the end.

I'll make the money back when I start working

El Centro/North Lake has a list like that included with the application. I'm not sure about Brookhaven.

However, tell me what school, in your WHOLE life, hasn't asked for further "dishin' out the dough"? LOL

I am also going to try to apply at the DCCCD for the nursing program. I am only needing A&P I which I am taking right now. I am in the process of getting all of the shots that I need and just did my physical today. I did the CPR class at El Centro last Friday. It was pretty easy. Just a very long day though since it is pretty much all day. It does go by pretty fast though. I also heard the teachers at El Centro are hard. One person told me the reason why they are hard is because they use to be nurses in the military so they have that military mentality going on with the yelling and everything. I just now need to get my shots done and finish A&P I and I will turn in my application. I will be going to the information session on the 11th of July. Anyone going that day? My first choice will be El Centro and second choice is Northlake. El Centro is just a straight shot down I-30 for me. Not looking forward to the parking though. Good luck to everyone!!!

Jenn

Hey Jenn, I have applied at El Centro for my first choice and NL my second. Hopefully we will get into our first choice :) Do you live in the Dallas area? There are ways around the parking. For going to El Centro you get a DART pass and you can take the rail in. The rail drops off just a block away from the school. It's really nice so you don't have to deal with parking or driving.

Anyway, keep me posted on whether you get accepted. :) I will let you know as well!!
