Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?

Books are ridiculously priced, I think. Hubby has a different outlook on it, "You can't put a price on learning." ....or some irritating comment like that. :chuckle

(Except when we are near broke, and he has pay for the books.) :chuckle :chuckle

The bad thing about the online/computer based class is that you can't resell your book because of the software. I don't understand why you can't resell it, and allow the person who buys it just to purchase a new license for the software. Maybe buying a new license wouldn't save you much money. :uhoh3:

I appreciate the confidence. I think I'm 95% ready for the first two tests! :) e094.gif

Unfortunately, there's 3 before the midterm. lol I'm going to look at the third test chapters today. Hopefully, I already know that information, or at least 'remember' learning it, so that it will be a review.

I know that 2001 wasn't that long ago, but a lifetime ago when I haven't been doing Algebra problems on a daily bases. I do remember a bunch though, so that's good.

I'm still trying to find rhyme or reason to some of the questions that ask to find the domain and range.

I understand with a problem like: y = x + 3, the domain and range are both "All real numbers", but I still have to figure out the reasoning on problems that have a square root, etc.

I'm getting there.e136.gif I'm going to bust my butt to make an A. I was proud of my B in 2001, now I'm going to be extremely proud of my A!!!

(I really think I repeat myself over and over again when talking about this Algebra class.....SORRY! e082.gif

Thanks alot =] I still have my notes from last Fall when I took Dmat 093 so I hope to be able to use those notes. Good Luck to you - I am sure you'll do fine after making an A in Chem. =]

I guess I should wait until after finals week....maybe they might have more info next week. If that is the book they are using I will be so glad because when I took math the last time i spent over $100 on the book.

Hey Dallas Area People~

I'm currently in Southern California finishing up my science pre-reqs & was just told the earliest I could get in is Fall '08:angryfire

Yeah, California community colleges stink! My husband would like to relocate to the Metroplex area but I'm afraid of losing even more time. Are you guys are impacted in your nursing schools as we are? Are there any schools that are less crowded than others?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Michelle

While there are several schools to apply to, El Centro only accepted 4.0 students that already had some of the required non-nursing courses complete.

We'll find out what the cut-off is for Fall '06 around April 15th. I'm sure it will be at least 3.77, if not 4.0 again.

There isn't a waiting list.

thanks for the info! I guess it's pretty similar in the sense that they have that many 4.0 students to chose from so the others have to enroll again next semester. Do they have Fall & Spring start dates for the program? Most of the schools around here only begin in the Fall, which means if you miss it - you're hanging around a year to try again. I have all but 3 g.e. courses done (still need a p.e., history, and humanities course) I'm assuming the reqs are the same in Texas - maybe I'll need more or less.

Well, thanks again for the info & I'll check in on you in April for your letter!

All school's pre-reqs are different. El Centro is for an ADN. Again there are a variety of schools that offer the ADN program as well as a variety that offer the BSN program.

For the Spring '06, there were 4.0 students that didn't get accepted...that's how hard the competition is.

There is a Spring and a Fall start.

Good luck wherever. ;)

Hey DCCCD group!

I love to read your "stories" about school! I get excited thinking that within a year that will be me !

I have a few questions, especially for the El Centro students. Even though it is early in the semester, do you all have any regrets about being at El Centro? Does the program seem to be well organized, and do the instructors seem to be "for you" and want you to succeed? I am only asking because I have a neighbor friend who is a student at El Centro who has recommended that I NOT apply there!

Thanks for the input and for your willingness to share your experiences!

I know I can't give much advice as I've only been in the program for a few weeks but I will try to help you out with any questions that I can answer. It is very disorganized...I know that much. It depends on the type of person you are if you want to go through with it. It really develops your critical thinking skills by having to search for everything you need. It's not one of those things where you can listen in class and make an A on the test. It's more like you go to class to get your attendace points and do most of the learning on your own. Everything is a treasure hunt and I wish they would tell students that in the first place because so many of them feel that they can just go to class and they will pass. That is so far from the truth. I have a friend in 4th semester and they started out with 60 students and now only have 25 that will possibly graduate. I can see why now that I have been there for just a few weeks. I wouldn't discourage anyone from going to El Centro or Northlake or THR or everything else encompassed in El Centro, I would just say it really depends on the kind of person you are. I have a few friends at NL and I really wish I would have gone there because the teachers seem so much nicer and more willing to work with you. I am hoping I can make it through to 4th semester but my goal right now is to make it through 1st semester :roll . So far, I don't regret it. I am sorry I don't have more information for you. My only advice is be prepared to do everything on your own!

Good luck on your acceptance!
