dating at work?

Published

Hey guys, just wondering what you think about dating a co-worker? I started talking to a cute aide a couple months ago. She is single and has a couple kids (one of them is handicapped), while I'm divorced with no kids. I am a few years older than her too. Anyway, it took some help from another aide to get some info as I did'nt want to just ask her out at work if she was'nt interested. I just found out she would go out with me if I asked her. Now for the problem. I happened to leaf through the policy book and there is a section stating dating among co-workers is grounds for termination. Its a small private company and people talk. But do you think they really go by this rule or is it more to protect their behind in case something happens like sexual harassment or something. Personally I don't think it would be a problem since we work different shifts. Maybe if I call her and if we agree to keep it out of the workplace? I can't afford to lose this job right now so I want to be careful, but there just does'nt seem to be any decent places to meet women in my small town. What do you guys think, call or no call?

my last GF and current fiance were/are co-workers.

Well, it looks like we won't be going out anyway as she never called back and I think she tends to go out partying more than she lets on. I guess she's still at the age. Oh well, I'll either find somebody more suitable or stay single...

dang it because I'm starting to like a new nurse that recently started too! She may be a little young for me as she's about 12 years my junior, but she is very nice, does'nt have the baggage as she has no kids, does'nt seem like she's into partying very much and has a decent career obviously. She's more of the girl-next-door type, but nobody can be perfect of course.

Especially steer clear of that one you will find camped out in the tree in the front yard with duct tape and stick waiting for you,or well thats what happened to me

haha bigdog, sounds kinky.

medsport, you're 39, how about some women more near your age or even older? older women are great!

I've seen a lot of pics of women around my age and they all look so old and out of shape for some reason. I know there are a few good ones out there, but I have'nt seen any in my area. I know I'm no Brad Pitt, but I feel I look younger than my age and pride myself in staying fit and live a healthy lifestyle. I think it makes a big difference as my ex-gf was 2 years younger than me and yet looked at least 5-6 years older IMO. I think it was all the years she smoked and tanned and probably stress of being a single parent. I'd be happy with somebody in their lower-to-mid 30's I guess if I could ever find one that was'nt married or had young kids.

Funny since im the only guy in the morning shift and single. There are a LOT of nice women in my floor, but i try to not date them. My friend dated one of his coworkers and when it ended badly, it spread like wildfire in the unit. Imagine seeing your ex around the unit when you work.

I would go on a few dates as friends. If you want to get more serious, ask you manager what they would do. If you are letting them know you are willing to get a new job, they might amend the policy. You might have to work different shifts, and would have to be professional at the office.

Ever hear the term "fouling the nest"? I suggest you look for love somewhere else.

Agreed, but what kind of hobby if you don't really have any interests? I like sports cars, watching movies, surfing the net, body building, and I like animals. I guess those are'nt really good hobbies to meet ladies. Sure some women go to the gym, but I concentrate on the weights (lift heavy, get done and get out of there). Maybe I should start doing some cardio so I can at least jump on a machine next to a woman and start up a convo. Like I said I did the line dancing back in the day and did meet one girl I went out with for awhile, but country dancing is not in anymore.

Most of my time is spent at work anyway (12 hour shifts with mostly women). But with the rules about dating co-workers these days you have to be careful with that. Also since I work the night shift, I usually sleep until the early evening. I don't know I guess it was'nt that bad tonight, maybe I should try it at least one more time when they have another one in a couple weeks. I might also start looking for more singles dances as I'm sure there has to be more of them and probably closer to my area too. At least I know I can now approach women a lot easier than I used to be able to. Now I just need to work on what to say after the initial "where you from or what do you do" conversation starters.

Women of a certain age tend to really like retriever type dogs........A pretty friendly dog is an instant conversation starter. (You can take obedience lessons and chances are you will meet someone very nice that you can have coffee with after doggy school or ?)

Dog parks

Pet food stores tend to like it when dogs come to visit....

I am making these suggestions because you already like animals and in my experience if you can make friends with another persons dog you are well on the way to friendship with them...

That's an idea, but the thing is I don't really like dogs as pets. I'm more of a cat person. I get along with dogs, just would'nt want to have to take care of one, especially when I work 13 hour shifts and live alone.
