I'm contemplating on purchasing dansko professionals. i tried them on at the store and they felt comfortable. My only concern is the height and the width of the base. I have terrible weak ankles and i am very prone to rolling it. What are your guys experiences with rolling your ankles with danskos??

I was also eyeing the crocs specialists, but crocs tend to make my feet look like boats!! I wear a size 9 womens.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I gave up on Danskos d/t seriously rolling my ankles several times - almost hit the pavement once.

I have extremely weak ankles too...at one time I was spraining an ankle twice a year. However, Danskos are the only shoes I wear at work. Once I got used to them, I've found I can even run in them if need be (though I'm always thinking "don't sprain your ankle, don't sprain your ankle"). Danskos are the only shoes I can do a 12 hour shift in. I love Crocs, but can only wear them for 4 or 5 hours at a time.

I have only sprained my ankle once in Danskos, but it was at home in a gravel driveway. I have also sprained ankles in Birkenstocks and Converse...so I'm not sure how much the Danskos had to do with it :p

Trust me, dansko's are going to hurt your feet really bad. If you like cushion and arch support in your shoes, do not buy dansko because they are extremwly hard and you will twist your ankle. I'm speaking from experience.

Well danskos have saved me. I have a bad ankle that I have had from a 25 year old injury. I have had 3 surgeries on it. I have tried every brand shoe know to man. I have a 9 1/2 size. The big key is... you have to break the shoes in first... no matter if you think they are comfortable or not. especially with people who have any issue. You can only wear them like 2 hours the first time, then move up to 4 hours, then 6 hours. and so on.. until you reach 12 hours. If you do not do this your feet will kill you after the first shift and youll never want to put them on again.. but once you get to the point you can wear them your whole shift, you will not need anything else. Even if they feel comfortable and you think you do not need to break them in after so many hours. you have to. However, I am a believer in never wearing the same pair of shoes 2 shifts in a row, so I have 2 pair that I alternate.

i've been wearing danskos for years. i have weak ankles, creaky knees and a bad back -- danskos are the only thing i can wear. i've rolled my ankles a time or two in them -- but i've also rolled my ankles barefoot. i'm not sure the danskos had anything to do with it. i think it's all in what works for your feet.

I recently purchased a pair of Dansko Professionals, and eventually they will break in. It took about a month, and it's actually easier on your feet if you do the Danskos for half a shift, and sneakers for the next half. I would also give some thought to your clinical environment. If you are close to the "danger" like in the unit or an "operative area" I'd say they are the only way to go, now...if you have to run run run up and down the halls of a perpetually understaffed floor, God help you if you are doing stepdown of any kind, I have been told the "Brooke's Addiction" is the ultimate sneaker. The cheapie I am, I bought 4 pairs of Dr. Scholl's sneaker's from Wal-Mart and have a shoe station in my bedroom with Lysol, and rotate them. When the staff can smell me coming, the shoes are dumpster-ized. One more thing about the floors...wearing clogs of any kind? have a code? those babies are coming off when you are flying down the hall. I would avoid the rubber clogs of any kind unless your feet hit the ground perfectly flat every time, if your feet pronate or supinate, it will make holes in your socks, and your feet will be sore as hell, and rubber never breaks in. Get off of the floors! get into a unit, get out the plastic and the Dansko professionals rock. Ladies? Dansko professionals come in leopard spots! pretty cool...check'em out...

My Danskos feel very stable. I can't wear any other type of shoe, with the exception of a quality running shoe, for any length of time. I have rolled my ankle once or twice in my Danskos, and yikes, it hurt!!!!!

I bought a pair of danskos. I have been wearing an ace bandage on my right ankle for two weeks now because of rolling my ankle. ugh and to think how much I spent. :(

I love my Danskos, but like I said in the other thread, I don't think they make the Professionals in wide. I do have several pairs of them that I wear for "good" occasions... most Sundays I end up standing for an hour while holding a 30# toddler on my hip, and while normally my feet would be killing me, they don't bother me at all.

I had to laugh when someone said their shoes were "dumpster-sized" -- my work Crocs are also a size 9 and my husband calls them my "bo-bo shoes" and asks where my horn is... ROFL.

I have to stay away from Danskos in the OR...I also have weak ankles and I've narrowly averted disaster..once I step unevenly at all, my ankles roll in them. Too bad, because my back likes them.

I just got a pair and have been wearing them around the house to break them in. I have rolled my right ankle three times now, so I don't think they will make it out the front door. I don't have horribly weak ankles, but I do have a history of several bad sprains and these just seem like a train wreck waiting to happen. It's too bad, they seem great for my feet, knees, and back and I think they are pretty cute.
