Danskos and Bad ankles

I'm contemplating on purchasing dansko professionals. i tried them on at the store and they felt comfortable. My only concern is the height and the width of the base. I have terrible weak ankles and i am very prone to rolling it. What are your guys experiences with rolling your ankles with danskos??

I was also eyeing the crocs specialists, but crocs tend to make my feet look like boats!! I wear a size 9 womens.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I have weak and hyperflexible ankles and flat feet. I find that I can't safely wear anything that is a clog--the chance of rolling my ankle (and hitting the floor spectacularly) goes way up when the shoe does not hug my foot all the way around. A bummer, because Dansko's are very nice. Instead I buy a high-quality running shoe (Sauconys fit me best, but you need to find the brand that works well for you) and use PowerStep insoles that I get from my podiatrist. I've even contemplated hightops for added ankle support, but they are too heavy.

i am seeing a lot of questions about dansko's and ankles. i have to say i loved my dansko's and wore them all the time. i also have always had very strong ankles, bring a trail runner, marathon runner etc. i took one bad step in my dansko's rolling my right ankle and ended up shattering both bones (bimal) dislocated tailus and also completely shearing all the ligaments and tendons in my ankle. i would wear these shoes with caution!

i'm really sorry that happened to you.

i have weak ankles, bad knees and after my back surgery three years ago, i can legitimately claim back issues. danskos are the only shoes i've found in which i can walk or stand all day and not have back pain. they also minimize my knee pain -- something about the steel arch supports. i've been wearing them since my first knee injury in 1995, and although i have turned my ankle a few times it hasn't been serious. i'm also perfectly capable of turning my ankle while barefoot.

your mileage may vary.

I am so glad I read all of these posts. I am getting ready to start the clinical portion of nursing school and have to get all white, leather lace up shoes per my school's requirements. I was going to get the lace up danskos but I have weak ankles so I am glad I have read everyone's posts. Can anyone recommend any other brands that are lace up and good shoes for being on my feet all day? Thanks!

I twist my ankles is shoes like Danskos. Try Birkenstocks.

Hi! I just fell yesterday while wearing my Danskos. Traffic was bad going to work, so I was a few minutes late. I was walking fast and my ankle turned, and I fell down on my hands and knees. When I got up, my left foot was in excruciating pain! I limped on up to my floor, a co-worker wrapped my foot with an ace bandage, and I went ahead and took report. Another nurse got me to put an ice pack on it for 15 minutes, but it still hurt. My charge nurse sent me to Employee Health, and they got it x-rayed. Then my charge nurse talked me into going home to rest. It turned out that it isn't fractured, but I have a big bruise on the top of my foot, and it is somewhat swollen. I missed work yesterday and today because of the pain. I just got my Danskos in July, and loved how my legs and hips didn't hurt after being on my feet for a 12-hour shift as a med/surg nurse in a busy hospital. Now I don't know what to do! I spent over $100 on these shoes, the most I've ever spent on a pairs of shoes in my life!!! I'm afraid to wear them again!

i wore danskos for over a year because they were super comfortable once i broke them in. the only downside was i noticed that my ankles rolled every so often in the shoe. i thought nothing of it because i never actually fell until one day i rolled my ankle at work, developed excruciating foot pain a couple hours later, found out i have a non-displaced "jones fracture" of the fifth metatarsal that is not covered by workers comp because the injury is a result of body mechanics. now i'm off work for a couple weeks unpaid while sporting a lovely walking boot, all not worth it for the danskos, they are definitely going in the dumpster. hope you find a good shoe.
