Danskos and Bad ankles

I'm contemplating on purchasing dansko professionals. i tried them on at the store and they felt comfortable. My only concern is the height and the width of the base. I have terrible weak ankles and i am very prone to rolling it. What are your guys experiences with rolling your ankles with danskos??

I was also eyeing the crocs specialists, but crocs tend to make my feet look like boats!! I wear a size 9 womens.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I'm one of the people who just didn't have any luck with Danskos.

Even after wearing them for several weeks, I kept rolling my ankles and even getting blisters (one size was a little too tight, the next one up was too big and rubbed).

My ankles aren't terribly weak, I'm just not very graceful, and I have a tendency to walk more on the outsides of my feet, which just doesn't seem to work well with Danskos. If you decide to get some, make sure the place you get them from has a good return policy and wear them around the house first. They seem to be magical for some people, but injured ankles are AWFUL.

I have a bum right ankle. I had a bimalleolar break last year that they repaired with a plate and 7 screws. I had been wearing Nike Shox and they were great when new, but only lasted about 4 months before my feet and back started killing me. I recently bought a pair of the red leopard print danskos (they are so cute, I just had to have them!) and I haven't had any problems at all with rolling or twisting, like I thought I would.

I will say that there is a definite breaking in process. It took about 3 shifts before they didn't hurt the bottoms of my feet and arches anymore. My lower back would always be sore and now it doens't hurt at all. The shoes make me stand straighter and that makes me feel like I'm sticking my butt out, but I think that is what cures the back pain.

i have a bad back and bad knees. a p.t. i worked with suggested danskos for work years ago, and i've been wearing them since. but when i had my back surgery, the surgeon told me to walk 45 min/day for rehab. i went out and bought a nice pair of new balance walking shoes and walked. my back hurt every time i walked. finally, the blisters from the new balance forced me to take one 45 minute walk wearing danskos. no pain! not only did my back not hurt, but my knees didn't either. now i wear my danskos all the time.

we went to europe for a week two years ago, and i walked 11 miles one day in my danskos -- all without pain, although i was pretty tired when we finally turned in that night!

So it seems to me like the Dansko shoes are great for your back/knees but have some potential ankle rolling problems?

This pretty well sums it up. I have wimpy ankles from multiple sprains and I love my Danskos. I have turned my foot a couple of times in the past few years, but the foot protection is worth the occasional risk. And, like several others, I turn my foot in anything, so it's just going to happen. One thing I really like about Danksos is how comfortable they are for those times when I'm stuck standing in one place for awhile. A lot of my good athletic shoes aren't so great for standing still.

I liked Danskos before the company changed its manufacturer a year or so ago to some Chinese company. Now I wear Sanitas, which is the company that USED to make Dansko soles. I love them, and I have never rolled my ankle in them. I think they are especially good for my high arches.

That's good to know (about the Sanitas co.) maybe I will look around for them also. I do have flat feet/very little arch at all so I may need to have some specific arch supports in my shoes either way.

I really like my Danskos, and I don't mind the once in a while ankle roll. It's a nice tension breaker when you're just standing there and all of a sudden fall over.

:yeah:sounds like a good deal. My back really feels it when I am standing. At my current work I stand/walk a lot as well, but just wear plain shoes. Better shoes would really be a great benefit.

I've only rolled my ankle once in my Dansko's, and I've been wearing them about three years.

I was running around my car (running late to get to another school), wet pavement on a hill, and down I went. I probably would have fallen even if I weren't wearing Dansko's.

I am seeing a lot of questions about Dansko's and ankles. I have to say I LOVED my Dansko's and wore them all the time. I also have always had very strong ankles, bring a trail runner, marathon runner etc. I took one bad step in my Dansko's rolling my right ankle and ended up shattering both bones (bimal) dislocated tailus and also completely shearing all the ligaments and tendons in my ankle. I would wear these shoes with caution!

I have to say that after rolling my ankle, needing xrays and not being able to walk right for weeks, I tried the danskos again. After one day, my ankle was sore from wearing them, don't remember anything happening that day. So, I hung it up. I ordered Croc Blitzens for the winter. I can wear them for any length of time and they are comfortable and never hurt my feet. I'm hoping the lined ones are even more comfortable.
