Dallas Presbyterian Nurse Interview

Nurses COVID

What do all of you think of the interview w/ RN Briana Aguirre, an employee of Dallas Presbyterian who helped care for Timothy Duncan and is now speaking out about the working conditions.

Dallas nurse Briana Aguirre: 'We never talked about Ebola' before Thomas Eric Duncan arrived - Health - TODAY.com

I think she was very articulate and very brave for coming forward. I worry for her job. I hope she does not get fired but if she does, I would hope that her fellow nurses would step up to help her out until she found new employment. She put herself out there to help protect all of us nurses potentially facing taking care of an Ebola infected patient.

I agree, Briana is a very brave woman. She's saying what needs to be said, at the cost of possibly losing her job and affecting her chances for future employment. Maybe NNU will offer her a job.

What happened at Texas Presb hospital could have happened at almost any hospital. It needs to be a wake-up call to everyone, not finger-pointing at this one facility. The way to turn this fiasco into something positive is to learn from it. No hospital has any excuses anymore.

Yeah, I don't think she's going to have a job for very long. :/

The CDC has done a disservice to the nurses at Dallas. Why would they stand by and let the nurses necks be exposed? Why did they offer such flimsy options of protections in the beginning saying a gown, gloves and mask are enough when they know full well that is not true! I'm glad they finally had hazmat suits and respirators, but it took the second week and then their necks were still exposed. Incredible and so like management to say it's on the way, make do till it gets here. She is so right they could have ordered from Amazon prime or even a sanitation company and gotten appropriate equipment. If the garbage men and cleaning men can do it, why the hell is it so hard for a hospital to do it! We are at a lot greater risk than the garbage man or cleaner!

I'm glad she was brave enough to speak out, unfortunately, she will probably lose her job, if not right away then later down the line while they come up with an excuse to fire her. Hopefully they won't do it and will realize the negative publicity that would cause, but whistle blowers really don't have much protection. It is common practice, even in the govt, to fire whistle blowers. Sad but true!

I watched the whole interview. It brought tears to my eyes.

Prayers said, Briana.

Thanks for posting the link. I had not seen this before. Briana is very brave! When CDC and government officials spoke they said the threat to America was low. It sounded like we would never see a case of Ebola in the US, so we were not prepared. Then they said any of our hospitals could handle a case of Ebola. Wrong Again! Why should we continue to believe them?

Oops! Thank you :-) Must have had the Spurs on my mind.

From a patient perspective I watched the interview and I have to say she was very brave for speaking out. While I was watching the interview, I was thinking to myself she sadly will probably lose her job, and it's a shame, she sounds like a great nurse and more over a good person. She and the other nurses were doing their best to care these patients with what they had to work with and what they knew.

One of the many reasons why I give your profession so much credit is for reasons like this, They knew very little but still tried to help those in need the best way they could, THAT to me is the DEFINITION of a Nurse.

To all of you who would try to provide the best care possible to your patient(s) no matter the circumstance, with what you had to work with. That's the best nurse a patient could ask for, THANK-YOU!!

Hoping this tragedy sends a message to the public, things have to change.

I am very upset after watching this interview. After hearing her describe the conditions the nurses had to work under, then thinking back to when the hospital was blaming the nurse for not following proper procedures and it was all her fault for getting effected.... I just see RED!
