CSUS Sacramento State Fall 2018

Published

Effective Fall 2018, Sac State is changing their Selection Criteria for Admissions into the BSN program. I've created this thread for those folks that are planning on applying Fall 2018 to ask questions, share their thoughts, etc. I'm interested to know if the changes make it easier or harder to get accepted. I myself was planning on applying Fall 2018 but may decide to apply Spring 2018 if it's "easier" before the new changes are put into effect.

The selection criteria changes include NEW:

 Admission Point Assignments

 Minimum Admission Point Total

 Minimum Science GPA

 Adjusted Nursing GPA

 Standard Units

 Repeat Policy

 TEAS Points

 Optional Criteria Points

I'm just finishing up my Micro, that was the only pre-req I had. However, I will be changing my major to Nutrition and then go the PA route if I do not get accepted.

Is everyone just spray laying about a larger than normal applicant pool? I am taking AP 2 and patho in case I get into Samuel merritt

"Spray laying"? I'm not familiar with this phrase

Hahaha! Dang autocorrect. Speculating was the word I meant.

We are just speculating because we were technically supposed to get the preliminary stats, 2 weeks ago. Also, I remember Fall of 2017, I remember getting an email saying from Terri stating that it's better to apply for Spring 2018, because they are expecting a large pool of applicants for Fall 2018. However, I couldn't apply for Spring because I had too many pre-reqs in progress. They must have had alot of applicants because the School of Nursing is technically 2 weeks behind on our decisions. That's the only explanation I can think of. Also, I think the online format makes it easier for more people to apply. It's more convenient, even for people who may live further away,so that could also explain why there are more applicants. I hope we get some sort of information this Friday. It's giving me alot of anxiety.

Hi everyone I had a quick question,

Will the preliminary statistics be uploaded or emailed to us? Also, will that be the first form of notification before the actual acceptance/rejection emails are out? I am so nervous and anxious due to the wait and delay!

So the first notification is this "preliminary statistics" email everyone is talking about, which is 2 weeks late now. It won't let you know any of your personal statistics at all, but what it will contain is how many students applied for 80 seats in the program. For example, it will say "we have received 400 applications for 80 seats in the nursing program" and then it will say how many points the last eligible person in the applicant pool has this semester. This is also known as the initial cut off score. It usually goes down because people will decline their admission because Sac State was their second option, also people that are above the cut off score may be disqualified for various reasons. Let's say in the worst-case-scenario, no student declines their admission and no one gets disqualified, then the cut off score will remain as it was initially. Then this email will give us an exact date and time when we will receive our acceptance email or rejection email, this is the email where we finally get an excel spread sheet of the points we earned. If you're waitlisted, this email will also finally let you know what # you are on the waitlist. Im also in the same boat, I'm really thinking this semester has a spike in the number of applicants. At this point, im guessing around 500 applicants or more. But who knows - we just have to wait a little longer and see.

Also to not get confused, the second email (acceptance, waitlist, rejection) will come a few weeks after the "preliminary statistics" email. For example, Spring 2018 students got this 2nd email on November 27.

Thank you! @aksp I was most worried about not getting my classes, so thanks for the clarification. I'll sign up for my current major class, and hopefully, if I'm in, I can get those nursing classes.

@cmehmi Teri said that you do not need to change your major. Once you get in the program, then you have nothing to worry about changing majors. Hope this helps!

this is exactly what she said: "Great question! If you are selected for admission, your major will be changed automatically before the start of instruction."

What classes are you guys taking this semester?

I'm taking microbio right now, and 3 other health science courses as my back up major.

If the SON knows they are really behind schedule, why doesn't Teri send out an email to all the applicants saying something along the lines of: "please hang in there, the preliminary statistics should be sent out by this/that date." It would not only put all of us at ease, but also save Teri the hundreds of emails right now from students asking about this email or an update.

And of course I can't relate to Teri and how demanding her job is, all I'm trying to say is - it would be a win-win situation for all of us. All it takes is a couple words in an email..
