CSUS Sacramento State Fall 2018

Published

Effective Fall 2018, Sac State is changing their Selection Criteria for Admissions into the BSN program. I've created this thread for those folks that are planning on applying Fall 2018 to ask questions, share their thoughts, etc. I'm interested to know if the changes make it easier or harder to get accepted. I myself was planning on applying Fall 2018 but may decide to apply Spring 2018 if it's "easier" before the new changes are put into effect.

The selection criteria changes include NEW:

 Admission Point Assignments

 Minimum Admission Point Total

 Minimum Science GPA

 Adjusted Nursing GPA

 Standard Units

 Repeat Policy

 TEAS Points

 Optional Criteria Points

Hello everyone, I am applying for Spring 2019 and I was hoping you guys can help me with a question I have. I have a B in English 2(Critical Thinking) and I was thinking of retaking it, or any other course from that area at another school to get an A. My question is, does that count as a repeat? Will the highest grade automatically be used to evaluate my gpa, or would I have to omit the B to keep the A in the adjusted gpa. Im confused because I didn't get a D or lower so I am not sure how it works. Hope I make sense, thanks in advance!

Hi Guneet,

You have a few options. You can take another course that falls in that Critical Thinking Section and try to get an A in that. For example, I took Phil 4, for that area. Another thing you can do is omit that B. You will still have a 4.0 adjusted nursing gpa, assuming you got As in your other pre-reqs. If you take this same class at another school, it will be counted as a repeat and repeats don't look good. Personally, I think it is best to aim for a non-adjusted nursing gpa of 4.0, because they do look at the grades you omit, in case there is ever a tie. Hopefully this helps.

i agree with this, there are many other classes that fall under critical thinking and i think taking a different one wouldn't count as a repeat and it will look better on your transcript

I have a quick question @aksp. Do you know of any nursing students who commute? I am debating on whether I should move to Sacramento or just commute, if it is manageable.

Depends on how far! I commute, myself :)

How far is your commute? I would be commuting from about an hour away. I'm just not sure if thats manageable, or if it gets to be too hectic. Do you know any other students who commute the same distance? Thank you for answering any questions we have. That's very kind of you!

I commute about 30 minutes back and forth depending on traffic. Personally I'd say that an hour is too far. Sometimes we have 10-12 hour days on campus and if you're far from Folsom hall or clinical sites, it'll be hard. Sometimes long days are back to back; on top of it you have to study and stay on top of homework. If you have the opportunity to move closer, I would.

Oh okay, thirty minutes isn't too bad. Yes, I also think an hour is too far away. It's doable but I'd be super exhausted, so I am planning to move, if I get accepted that is. Thank you for answering my question!

Any news about the applications' status?

Nope...I'm practically frothing at the mouth to get those damn preliminary stats!

Yup me too! I'm constantly checking the website, my email, and here at allnurses, hoping for an update.

I'm getting really anxious, and I just want the preliminary statistics to be posted!

Part of me thinks that I somehow screwed up my application! It's too bad there's not a way to check the status of it.
