CSUN 2016 ABSN

Published

Hi Everyone! I was searching around and couldn't seem to find a thread for the spring and fall 2016 ABSN program at CSUN. Hopefully we can use this thread to talk to and support each other as we go on this crazy journey :D

Hello fellow applicants!

I wanted to share my experiences and help those who are still waiting to hear from CSUN ABSN. I know from personal experience that this was a very difficult few months waiting to hear from the schools you've applied to and having your life and plans put on hold. I've been posting and stalking this thread along with CSULA ABSN 2016 the only two schools I applied for since December.

I was unfortunately declined at CSULA's ABSN Summer Program around March 23, 2016. I was devastated :( nd I thought that my chances at getting in at CSUN's program was close to non-existent since my application for both schools pretty much contained the same materials. I recently graduated and got my B.S. at CSUN last Summer and it is my first choice for an ABSN program since I was an undergrad there.

I knew that there might be a possibility that this might be their last Cohort and if I do not get in to CSUN's ABSN program this year then I might probably never go back to CSUN again . I was already planning to take additional prerequisites for National University's 22 month ABSN program and MSMU's a prerequisites that CSUN did not require.

However as I was going through my e-mails I received my acceptance to CSUN's ABSN program for Summer 2016!!! CSUN was my first choice anyways !! Here is a part of the e-mail I received from the program.

-Dear Emmanuel Sebastian,

We are delighted to let you know that you have been accepted into the Summer 2016 Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) track at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). To finalize your acceptance to our program, there are three items which need your attention:

1. Complete the attached letter of acceptance.

Scan, fax or email it back to us by the due date of April 8, 2016......

So that pretty much sums it up and I wanted to share my stats to help those who are still waiting. My undergrad GPA was only 3.47. My prereq was 3.7 which got me worried the most. I also have a CNA cert and EKG tech cert. Over 200 hours of volunteering / internships at Physical Therapy Clinics, Nursing Homes, and CSUN's Student Healthcenter. I've also been working as a CNA at a Pediatric Sub-acute facility since November just to put it in my resume but I ended up staying because of the kids there.

Hello everyone!

I was accepted for the Fall cohort but will be declining my spot since I was admitted to the UCLA MECN program. I am glad someone will benefit from taking my spot at the CSUN ABSN program. My stats: Cum GPA is 3.5 prerequisite GPA 4.0. I have a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Biology. Volunteering experience at the LAC+USC Medical Ctr (urgent care) for one yr. I have 2 years of CNA experience at a skilled nursing home, Torrance Memorial (Hospital) and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Bilingual (Spanish) I also have undergrad research and teaching experience. For the future: I think what will make it or break it in your application are the LORs and your Personal Statement make sure the letters are GOOD and from different people (professor, employer, volunteer) and that you revise your statement as much as possible and run it by people in the field so that it is perfect.

Don't worry too much with diversifying your LORs; Make sure they're from people who can speak to your character. My LORs were all from professors; just nurture your relationships and stay in contact prior to asking for the LORs. As far as a personal statement, don't worry too much about perfection + while asking for revisions don't get lost in other's opinion, make sure it conveys what you want it to.

Just wanted to include my opinion because I would have been a little intimidated reading that; I was also accepted to UCLA/CSUN's program.

Congrats to everyone thus far! :)

Has anyone heard any new news? Acceptances? Denials? Positions opening up? Thanks :)

I received my rejection email on Friday, April 1st. Good luck!

Has anyone been able to register for classes?

Hello!

I just passed by the campus to turn in my letter of intent for Summer 2016! I also asked the bookstore bout textbooks but seems they are not yet stocked on some of the books we will need.

I also asked if they were done sending out the acceptance letters. It turns out that they are close to finishing the acceptance letter and denials. They will wait until April 8th to see how many accepted their spots so they know how many to pull from the alternative list.

Also as far as registering I think we will just have to wait until orientation day. Has anyone received info regarding the orientation?? I just turned in the letter so idk how long it'll take until I get the info for orientation.

There seems to be a lack of information so we just have to be flexible. Information on cost & financial aid and start dates were all something I thought would be included in the acceptance but were not.

The thing driving me crazy right now is that the letter of intent seems to not print correctly. It's to big in width to fit on a single page.

try to print it in landscape mode instead of portrait.

I will most likely be turning down my summer spot to attend another school. good luck everyone!
