  1. Sorry, had to chime in. Finished the program in June 2018. If you were accepted, you’re accepted; we all wondered same thing, it’s just a process where the SON identifies their candidates for acceptance then informs the graduate division. Go celebrate. as for the rigor, it’s hard, but mainly time consuming. They’ve made it better in 2018, and a lot more professors care, but there are a few there still who have an old school mentality. Luckily, individual courses now only require 74 min (with overall 3.0 gpa avg). The new director seems to really care about student input as well so that’s fantastic. The program does help on job placement, I think the majority of us got hired within UCLA and a ton at cedars, and almost everyone I knew has certainly found a job by now. some went up north to ucsf and Stanford, and I was lucky enough to land a spot at a UCLA Icu, congrats, it’s okay to relish in some of the success and celebrate! Also, as far as acceptance, they care about your sop/lor/and then your grades. While grades are important, they don’t need to be flawless. I had very little background experience and volunteered for about 100 hours before applying so not everything you do has to be tailored to the profession. Just having a good idea on why you want to do this, and what steps you’ve started i think are more important to communicate!
  2. Heard back, received an offer foir 4CW SM ICU starting 9/24 -- so notices may be coming out throughout this week!
  3. Also haven't heard back yet but meant to touch on this, did you hear if anyone from 4cw had heard back? I did hear other units were receiving notifications but it seems staggered,
  4. Hey everyone! Just curious if anyone has heard back for Adult ICU (4CW) at Santa Monica?
  5. (in the program now) -- We had a student join our cohort literally in the first week who was on the wait list. So technically, it ran all the way up until the first week of class!
  6. misunderstood post.
  7. You could, but they're pretty busy with apps right now. I know they've been reviewing them for the past two weeks. Last year I heard back around 2/16 I believe there were notifications made all through March as well
  8. Sorry I haven't dug back in the comments but assuming you haven't already, try reaching out to Rhonda Flenoy or Marc Covin; they're excellent resources and while I know the application is new this year, our prior one allowed us to remove someone who hadn't responded to replace them with another LOR candidate.
  9. Hey everyone > just started the program here a little over a month ago. If you came to an info session, that's pretty much your home for the next couple of years once you're in. That auditorium is where all the classes are taught and skills are taught in separate areas! I didn't poll other's grades, but it seems to be a wide range including experiences. I know for health care experience they do prefer experience with direct patient care (in one facet or another) but again, there are plenty of others that have not had any direct exposure to patient care and seem to be moving along just fine! When people mention SOP as being crucial, it's pretty important. GPA is as well obviously for the MECN program but like I said, I think there is a wide spread (like 3.3-4.0) and would probably weighted by SOP/LORs! Hope to see you all next year! edit: forgot to address some of the opening questions: I'm unsure about long term salary, but as far as entry, it's an RN position. As far as specialties this program specializes in CNL (clinical nurse leaders), if you mean like advanced practice, one of the program directors is a firm believer in having sufficient experience prior to becoming an NP; she has said a few times "how can you expect to diagnose if you haven't even seen it in practice." Their NP program is quite serious, I think it was one of the first nationwide and definitely the first on the west coast I believe? Anyway, I'm hoping I addressed a few of your questions!
  10. Congrats to everyone thus far! :)
  11. Don't worry too much with diversifying your LORs; Make sure they're from people who can speak to your character. My LORs were all from professors; just nurture your relationships and stay in contact prior to asking for the LORs. As far as a personal statement, don't worry too much about perfection + while asking for revisions don't get lost in other's opinion, make sure it conveys what you want it to. Just wanted to include my opinion because I would have been a little intimidated reading that; I was also accepted to UCLA/CSUN's program.
  12. I've gotten lucky with grades but had a 3.98 undergrad and 4.0 in prereqs (though I don't think any of this is necessary). I remember wanting to know this as well prior to applying but few spoke about it. I was accepted to two programs and in my other program, plenty of others have good grades and some haven't even completed pre-reqs (missing 2-3 pre-reqs but they're completing them this spring).
  13. Whoops, keyboard went on the fritz! Don't give up hope, alternate spots arent a negative thing and you've already beaten the odds getting there! I'm sure plenty of people are giving up spots as their notifications have come quite late! Good luck to all :)!
  14. Have faith man, I'm sure other than myself others are possibly giving up their seat as well! Good luck :)
  15. Congrats to those that have received and to those that will be receiving! I was accepted to Summer cohort but will be passing as I was accepted to a different program! Wish you all the best!
