CSUN 2016 ABSN

Published

Hi Everyone! I was searching around and couldn't seem to find a thread for the spring and fall 2016 ABSN program at CSUN. Hopefully we can use this thread to talk to and support each other as we go on this crazy journey :D

CSUN ABSN:

"The Accelerated B.S.N. Option is on hiatus. Admission has been suspended as of Fall 2017. The program is not accepting applications at this time."

Does this mean I should start looking elsewhere to apply??? Why is it on hiatus???

@tcl2016 I retook an English 101 course that I had a C in, completed my Care Extender internship, completely rewrote my statement (that I rushed last time) and I also replaced one of my letters of recommendation. I think the letter of rec and grade replacement were the most important changes I made. None of my letters were from an RN or NP...I asked my former employer, one of my undergrad professors I know well and the head of one of my volunteering sites. The previous year I asked an NP I shadowed and it resulted in a weak letter that was about as long as this message...and I only found this out AFTER trying to figure out what I needed to do to make myself a stronger applicant for the next cycle. As frustrating as it can be, everything happens for a reason. I hope this helps! :)

@Jackeeee As for the program suspension...I personally would have backup schools to apply to for this next cycle. No one knows what's going on with the program...but we should remain hopeful :) who knows...maybe they're going to make it like CSULA's

Is anyone with a bachelor's degree going back to get an ADN ?

My bachelor's is in Physiology, is it dumb to go back to school for an associates in nursing? It would mean taking the general ed courses, which I'm dreading...

I also have a bachelors in psych. At first I thought I'd be ridiculous to get an asn since I already have a bachelors, but considering the competitiveness of nursing programs, I've decided to apply for associates programs next year. That is, if I don't get into an accelerated program this year. I don't think it's ridiculous at all.

What gen Ed courses would you need to take?

Don't think it's dumb at all.. someone said it best, regardless of the degree you receive, everyone takes the same nclex exam.

I think if you have the opportunity for an ABSN/MSN you take it just because of time required in the program is less than or about the same but it shouldn't make the other opportunities any less lucrative.

I would have applied to ADN programs this next cycle if I didn't get in to the program I was hoping to. I think for major hospitals and their magnet status, a bachelors is stated to be necessary but my fiance has worked at trauma 1 centers like UCI with her ADN (which she just completed her BSN, reimbursed by her current hospital.)

Anyone else super anxious?! I believe last year they started sending out emails on March 17th, let's hope they do so soon! Good luck everyone!

@sonnynm,

I noticed the same thing. It's also true for the year before last. I was thinking the first group of acceptances will hear something by end of day Friday. Thinking about all this leaves me with a nugget of panic deep in my belly. I can't wait for all this to be over.

Let's all hope we hear by the end of this week because CSUN has spring break the 21st -27th. :D Good luck everyone.

Don't think it's dumb at all. I'm actually in an ADN program right now just incase I don't get into Csun. I applied for the spring semester at the community colleges and had no choice but to start it because the acceptances came out before the cal state programs. It's definitely pretty intense as well. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have to retake your gen Ed classes as long as the community colleges accepts them. A lot of community colleges have pretty well known nursing schools.

Checking my email every 10 minutes :nailbiting:

Dude...seriously... and this website hahaha. this is torture. Can a girl just get an answer already? SHEESH!
