Is anyone applying to CSUN's ABSN program (2014 cohort)??? I know their application deadline is coming up but the info on their website is out of date and there's no application available on the site. I tried contacting the department via email and phone but no response/answer. Anyone having better luck applying than me?
Had my interview today. The faculty seems truly amazing and welcoming! For those of you with interviews next week good luck and I won't say the exact questions but just look at general nursing school questions and general interview questions and you'll be fine. No trick questions or anything that surprised me... The faculty really does make you feel comfortable and it was over and done with in just under 20mins. Apparently we'll find out by the end of the month if we get in.
Does anyone know when Summer ABSN and Fall ABSN start?? I forgot to ask during my interviewPlease let me know if anyone here knows!
Hi dnalirem- The professors that I interviewed with said that the Summer ABSN program starts May 27. I didn't ask about Fall during my interview. Hope this helps. :)
Hi destiny_23,
I will give you the advice that I have heard from EVERY nurse I've spoken with regarding this... When I spoke with my NP supervisor at Stanford, numerous nurses in the field, potential schools and a few professors in the nursing department at UCSF they all said it DOES NOT matter where you get a BSN - especially if you were good enough to get into both schools you shouldn't have an issue getting a job a few months out of school. I was accepted to UPenn for the ABSN/MSN program which is number one in the country for what I want to do but I declined my spot due to cost. If you interview well and make connections in nursing school it will not matter where you go. CSUN also has clinical locations all over LA. With that in mind, if cost is not a factor, go where you got the best faculty vibe. In the end you are in charge of what kind of education you get and how far you go to look for opportunities out of class. I also had to consider the profession I saw myself going into... My passion is working with the underserved and I did not want to be tied down to loans for the next 10 years. Good luck with your decision!
destiny_23, Vanessa said it very well. I'm glad Vanessa confirmed what I've been trying to figure out too. I wanted to know whether I should go to a school that was ranked higher, but costs a LOT more, or a school that will teach you the same things, isn't ranked as high, and is affordable. Nurses say it doesn't matter which school you go to, as long as the NCLEX pass rates are high. Everyone who passes becomes an RN and all RNs get paid the same, no matter which school you went to.
The nurses I've asked all say IT DOES NOT MATTER. It depends on you as the nurse, if you go out there and find opportunities yourself. She's trained and worked with nurses who came from USF, UCSF, John Muir and CSM and she said she'd choose the nurse from CSM. A charge nurse said, look at all the nurses here (in San Francisco's Seton Medical Center), none of them came from Stanford or another really good school. She said just go to one where you can stay close to home and costs less. But if you want to run away from family and money isn't a factor, then you should do what will make you happy (haha). And to get hired, you have to sell yourself.
