i've been following a few threads and i love the excitement and anticipation of those waiting for acceptance letters/phone calls to a particular program and the camaraderie that it creates. i would love to get a thread going to show support and updates for those of us who have/are applying to cal state dominguez hills mepn program for fall 2010. i submitted my portfolio and application on november 30th. i was told that i should expect an interview in january. this is the only program i'm applying to. i know some may say that isn't smart, but i've done alot of research and it is the best/only one that meets all of my needs: prereqs, location, program duration, nclex pass rate and cost. being 30 and already having an expensive master's from usc in a field that i have decided to walk away from in order to follow my heart, i know that this program is the one for me. so i'm stepping out on faith and claiming my spot in the fall 2010 cohort. in my workshop, they said that they only expect to accept 35-40 students for fall. would love for others to share their experience with applying to this program and hopefully many of us will start this journey together are csudh in the fall! good luck to everyone!

Hello Everyone,
I really wish I had found this forum earlier. Congratulations to everyone who have been accepted into the program. For everyone else, I feel your pain. I turned in my portfolio in Novermber 2009 and have just been invited to an interview next week (after e-mailing the folks at CSUDH).
I had a bad experience during this application process and now have trust issues with admissions offices. I was given acceptance to the Entry-Level MSN program at California Baptist University for Summer 2010. I was in the process of getting health clearance, ordering uniforms, and turning in all the appropriate documents to start the program this May when the admission representative came back to me and informed me that I needed to take Organic Chemistry. I was dumbfounded. I thought I was all set to go but at the last minute they pushed my acceptance back to Summer 2011 conditional to completing OChem. I took a Chemistry for Nurses course at CC that included a survey of General, Bio, In/organice chemistry but they wanted a more in depth class. I took Chemistry in 2008 and if I was informed that I needed to take additional classes I would of done it. It was such a heart break.
CSUDH was always my first choice but I have been waiting for months with no word so I finally had to e-mail the program reps and check my status and now I am set to interview so I hope it goes well. I feel like I have been preparing to start a program for years and am ready to start.
I am currently enrolled in Pathophysiology at CSUDH and it is a difficult course. The weekly quizzes really help out cause you can take then over and over until you get the maximum amount of points and it helps you learn the material. Good luck to everyone!
Hi Carolyn,
I am sorry to hear about your experience with CBU. I think we all have had issues with the nursing school application process. It has been very trying! I too am waiting for someone to tell me I have overlooked a required class just before I start...big fear!
I can't believe it took CSUDH so long to get back to you...well, actually I can. I am glad you have an interview, though. Good luck on that and keep us posted if you hear anything back from them!
Hi to all!
I'm new but very glad I've found this site!
I too have applied, turning in my portfolio in February. This application process was honestly stressful, especially b/c of not hearing anything substantial even after my emails and calls. Anyway, I have an interview next week. Just wondering if anyone else interviewed? How was it? I was under the impression that the interview was with other faculty members...so to be honest, I don't know what to expect. Thanks for any feedback!
I also interviewed with ----- and he was really easy to talk to. (He likes to talk so it will probably take you twice as long to interview as they tell you.) He will ask you questions from a script - pretty much the same things you address in the portfolio, as well as the always tough, "who are you?" lol. Then you will have a pretty straightforward writing sample. I believe you have two topics to choose from - I can't remember what I wrote about, but I think it was something like "why I want to be a nurse". Good luck and let us know what happens!
Thanks so much for the support and advice! I think my interview is with Jorge too...or at least he was the one that scheduled it.
Has anyone heard of someone getting an interview but ultimately getting rejected from the school? I know there was an earlier discussion of whether or not everyone who turned in a portfolio was also invited to interview. A friend of mine received a rejection letter without getting an interview so I know that not everyone is invited to interview.
Hi to all of you who are new to the thread and have upcoming interviews. Best of luck! The interview isn't stressful! Mine was with JE and it was pretty straightforward and casual once I was comfortable and saw that he was comfy. He can be hard to read at first, but just be yourself. Like Kim said, he likes to talk AND if he likes you, you will be there for a while, just talking. LOL
I'm so glad to see more CSUDH MEPN hopefuls - I was starting to get worried everyone knew something the 3 of us didn't LOL.
Not sure if CSUDH interviews everyone who meets the GPA requirements. But it seems to be a very long, drawn out process, and with interviews still taking place, they may interview everyone or at least a good number of qualified and strong candidates. My guess is, if you got an interview, you're really being considered - so just do well in your interview and any remaining classes.
Again, good luck! Sending positive thoughts for a happy outcome your way!!
