  1. As far as I know, things aren't great for new RNs in general and CSUDH is no exception. You have to start networkinig day 1. During my interview I asked if they provide help finding jobs after graduation, and she said no. They expect the students to try and get a job out of the preceptorship in your second year.
  2. A couple people worked a few hours while in the program, but for most of us it was nearly impossible. When they tell you that you won't have time to work, they really mean it.
  3. You have to sew the patches on yourself...or hire someone to do it. And the sizes run pretty big, so you should probably order a size smaller than you normally would buy. Mine are small tops and medium bottoms. My friend's are probably extra-small. Don't believe what ---- says about you HAVING to get the stethescope he wants you to get. Your clinical instructors could care less what kind you have. In fact, our instructor told us to get the $20 one so we didn't lose our expensive ones...
  4. Hi Genzey, It was $70 for the skills bag, $140 for a *specific* stethescope, some small things like a pen light, bandage scissors, etc. and the biggy was a Kaplan course to practice for the NCLEX that was about $400. Things may be different this year, but hopefully it's not more. If you guys didn't read in earlier posts, you can see the Dove uniforms by using the code CSUDH. And these are an additional $200. Like I mentioned above, if you guys are tight on money, another drop-out and I have a couple uniforms we hardly wore with patches already sewn on, our stethescopes, and the skills bag. I returned to what I was doing before...environmental field. Touching people was just not the right path for me!
  5. Hi all, Congrats on your acceptance into the MEPN program! I started the program last year, but decided that nursing wasn't right for me after a few weeks. oh, and be ready to thrown down $600 at this meeting...last year they did not warn us about this ahead of time.
  6. Hi Psych_to_Nurse, They have a specific form the recommenders must fill out -- they will give it to you at the workshop. You turn in a portfolio and the letters must be in there, so your recommenders need to give the letters to you sealed. I would contact your recommenders soon and warn them you will be giving them a form, because you only have 30 days from the date of the Orientation to turn in a completed portfolio. Good luck!
  7. Hi Genzy, I am also a Gaucho (though many years ago)! I would talk to them at the workshop about the SBCC patho class. I think they would *prefer* you take it at CSUDH, because I (and others) have received mixed messages about SBCC class. They may have waffled on it last year, and officially said no this year...not sure, though. The workshop is WAY casual. I can't remember if we even introduced ourselves, so unless you make a complete scene, they probably won't remember who you are. :) Good luck with the app process!
  8. They have a new instructor for Patho this year, but if it is the same as when I took it, they do post a couple weeks (not the entire semester) of quizes at a time so you could potentially go a little faster. However, as a six-week summer school course, I don't see how jumping ahead is humanly possible. It's a lot of material to cover in a short period of time!
  9. Hi D848, If you go to csudh.edu home page, you will see a square button that says "student email" on the right side of the page. Click that and use the same login/pw as your MyCSUDH account.
  10. Ugh, I bet they will have it the week I will be in Washington state...
  11. The short answer is no. But I just sent you a PM...not sure if you are able to get it.
  12. Ha ha! OK, I will try later...
  13. Nope, haven't received any emails from them. Did you get my PM? I never know if those work...
  14. Congratulations! Yes, that sounds like the letter we received from the SON. You will be getting another letter from the Office of Admissions. Did you letter give you an Orientation date, or did it still stay TBA?
