CSUDH Entry MEPN Program - Fall 2010 Applicants

Published

i've been following a few threads and i love the excitement and anticipation of those waiting for acceptance letters/phone calls to a particular program and the camaraderie that it creates. i would love to get a thread going to show support and updates for those of us who have/are applying to cal state dominguez hills mepn program for fall 2010. i submitted my portfolio and application on november 30th. i was told that i should expect an interview in january. this is the only program i'm applying to. i know some may say that isn't smart, but i've done alot of research and it is the best/only one that meets all of my needs: prereqs, location, program duration, nclex pass rate and cost. being 30 and already having an expensive master's from usc in a field that i have decided to walk away from in order to follow my heart, i know that this program is the one for me. so i'm stepping out on faith and claiming my spot in the fall 2010 cohort. in my workshop, they said that they only expect to accept 35-40 students for fall. would love for others to share their experience with applying to this program and hopefully many of us will start this journey together are csudh in the fall! good luck to everyone!

thank you, and good luck in your programs.

sounds like you have good support and motivation!

Hey Kim! I think the program started in 2006......I think. So if cohort 1 graduated in 2008......that would us cohort 5 (class of 2012)......I think! LOL

But that's a great idea!

Uh, I mean #5... :lol2:

And yikes to post #72!

Hey Ladies, have any of you checked your application status on Mycsudh? Mine still reads "Your application is complete and will be reviewed for admission."

I find this odd, but maybe they're slow with updating the system. I'm thinking about calling admissions, however.

Yeah, mine says the same thing. I assumed that was as far as the admissions office went with electronic notification...

I wish we would hear something from the school so I can get cracking on immunizations, physicals, etc. and know approximately when orientation starts. Maybe soon since the deadline was Monday??

So I lack any kind of patience, so I already called! LOL.....they said the system hasn't been updated, but if you got the letter, no worries. Also, he said masters programs send out detailed information and each has their own timelines for that. Hopefully we will hear something, probably by email, from JE within the next month, I'm guessing.

Glad you were impatient and called!

Guess it's just a waiting game then...

How's CNA class going?

CNA class is good, draining though. Between work and these classes, I have no energy, then we start clinicals in a few weeks, sat-sun, 7a-4p!! That means I will be working 7 days straight! I must've lost my mind! LOL

The other night in class, we were going over hygiene and we watched a video on perineal care, which is basically cleaning the genital areas of patients/residents, and they showed EVERYTHING! I heard everything from "oh I think I'm going to be sick" to "are you serious"!!! LMAO - I'm thinking to myself "what did you folks think you were getting into?"

I definitely do not have an iron stomach, but I think I'll be ok and hopefully I'll be a little more comfortable when fall starts!

I can't wait to hear from the school! I really want to know about our schedules - how long we will be on campus vs. clinicals.

Ugh, that sounds draining! I am glad I am taking a break for one semester before we hit the ground running. Though I sort of wish I took a class that would allow me get some type of PT job while in school - phlebotomy, etc. They just don't have much to choose from up here...

In my microbio class I had a woman grossed out by all the "germs" you can catch in the hospital. Again, what did you expect?? But I think it helped her decide she couldn't be a nurse...so maybe that was a good thing for her.

I know!! Wish we knew now!!!

Yeah, I think prereqs help weed out those that are either not serious or thought it would be something different.

Also, while the CNA is a state certificate, most hospitals will hire nursing students for assistant or patient care tech positions if you've completed at least one semester (some want one year) of nursing school. So I'm sure you'll be able to find something after the first semester.

Also, I plan to take a week vacation somewhere, before school starts! My cousin has a timeshare in the bahamas, so I'm going to see if I can use it. It might be the only break I have for a long while! LOL
