CSUDH Entry MEPN Program - Fall 2010 Applicants

Published

i've been following a few threads and i love the excitement and anticipation of those waiting for acceptance letters/phone calls to a particular program and the camaraderie that it creates. i would love to get a thread going to show support and updates for those of us who have/are applying to cal state dominguez hills mepn program for fall 2010. i submitted my portfolio and application on november 30th. i was told that i should expect an interview in january. this is the only program i'm applying to. i know some may say that isn't smart, but i've done alot of research and it is the best/only one that meets all of my needs: prereqs, location, program duration, nclex pass rate and cost. being 30 and already having an expensive master's from usc in a field that i have decided to walk away from in order to follow my heart, i know that this program is the one for me. so i'm stepping out on faith and claiming my spot in the fall 2010 cohort. in my workshop, they said that they only expect to accept 35-40 students for fall. would love for others to share their experience with applying to this program and hopefully many of us will start this journey together are csudh in the fall! good luck to everyone!

Congrats D848!! And yep, follow killar's instructions on registering! And yes, dorky, the class is all online!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has gotten any news (in regards to more specific dates, scheduling) after having sent in the confirmation letter to JE?

The short answer is no.

But I just sent you a PM...not sure if you are able to get it.

cool thanks, yes got your pm. I'll look up the grp now.

hey, i was there talking to JE and he said that there should be an email being sent out because we will meet soon for orientation, sometime next month (around the corner).

Ugh, I bet they will have it the week I will be in Washington state... :uhoh3:

Hey Everyone - check your toromail email! We have detailed information, finally, from JE! Yay!

Mya, I've never used my toromail before. Do you know how to create an account? Is your password the same as mycsudh? Please advise. Thanks.

Hi D848,

If you go to csudh.edu home page, you will see a square button that says "student email" on the right side of the page. Click that and use the same login/pw as your MyCSUDH account.

Hi everyone I just joined in on this site today after reading all of your comments! You have inspired me greatly and I am planning on applying to CSU DH for Fall 2011. I just graduated UCSB in biology and am taking 4 of the prerequ classes during summer right now. Although, did we finally get a consensus on whether or not JE accepts sbcc patho because I am enrolled in it right now with 2 weeks to go :(. Do they accept a research course at a city college? or does that have to be taken through csudh as well? Also, i am looking to enroll in a CNA class to get the certification to apply to csu dh. Any suggestions for a cheap/quick class in the orange county area?

Congratulations to all of your recent acceptances btw! It gives me great hope that it IS possible. Any key things I should know before applying?

Thank you!

genzey,

Here is the exact message I received from JE on patho: "The SBCC patho class is a lower division class. Our patho class is upper division. Also, the unit value needs to be equivalent to 3 units." Even though they may previously have accepted it, they definitely are not accepting it now. When I spoke with him about it, he said that they were finding that the people who took a lower division patho course weren't as prepared for the MEPN program as they needed them to be, which is why they are pointing everyone to their own program. I know it is expensive ($750 - yikes! and that may go up), but CSUDH is still a great bargain. Good luck and feel free to post more questions as you go through the process. I went to two orientations for the MEPN program and am starting in August. It is so exciting and the level of students who have been admitted is excellent, which makes it even more exciting (and scary!)

haha go figure. I am already well into the class. I wish I knew that before. Oh well, I guess a little extra knowledge doesn't hurt ha. Congrats on the acceptance! I am so excited to hear how all of you like the program. Did you all apply anywhere else, how many programs? I am in the process of looking at about 15 different programs and I am trying to decide if I want to apply to all of them or if that isn't a wise idea. I guess you could say I am stressed out about getting in because all I hear is how competitive it is everywhere. I don't want to only apply to a select few and not get in and then have to wait another year! I would say CSU DH is my first choice though!
